Lin's Ceramic Studio

by Bubba_tea » Aug 28th, '08, 23:24

Have you guys ordered from Lin's Ceramic Studio? I really like the looks of this Gaiwan especially in the red/black combo - but I can only get so far with my basic Chinese on their website...

Unfortunately I haven't been able to navigate Lin's site either. I do own one of their mineral ore teasets and I am very happy with it, using it mostly for aged oolongs. IMO the quality level of their products is very high.

Hou De Asian used to carry some Lin products and occasionally they still do. A year ago they had three types of Lin gaiwan including a black and red one. Currently they have a Lin's all-black exterior gaiwan (white inside) listed, but only one piece in stock.

I'm also very happy with the Lin's kettle I have. I wish I knew their clay body recipe. "Flameware" is difficult to make and almost no one in the US produces it for fear of lawsuits.

Way cool! Does it burst into flames or something and then calls a local attourney for the lawsuit?? We used to sell the Chinese clay pots to patients to boil their herbs - but not to put them on high on the stove!! Well, they always would be impatient and be quick to boil, and end up with a messy stove. I guess I'm impatient also 'cos I've busted one or two or...

It explodes, actually. Only this guy sells handmade flameware in the US. There are some earthenware pots for beans and shabu shabu, but most of those I've seen were imports from Italy, Spain, Mexico and Japan.

I'm not sure if the Lins kettles are earthenware or stoneware. The new non-Lins clay kettle at Houde is earthenware.

I'll have to visit Lins and invite their clay formulator to dinner and get him drunk to get the recipe out of him

I got most of the way through the ordering process, but I don't think they will ship to the US via their site. I might try calling them, though.

Lucky that Visions still produces their flamewares for EU customer. Most of their products become collectible items nowadays in USA.
I've been waiting for this one for about 1 month :P

Lin's is such a funny company me. I've had a bit of correspondence with them, with each email ending with "are you ready to place your order? Here is our PayPal address" (I know other posters have commented on their....earnestness).
Anyhow, I place my order, receive a tracking number along with the message "Your order will be delivered on this date." Said date comes and goes, and the tracking number brings up no information, so I write and ask what's going on and if there was a mistake with the tracking number. I get an email with a very terse "your order shipped yesterday." Huh? Didn't you already tell me it shipped over a week ago?

Oddly ... or perhaps coincidentlally, I see more spammers selling Lin's products than any other product line.

I think Lin's makes great kettles. I have not used anything else made by them. And even my kettle I got through someone that was visiting their store directly, which shipped it to me after picking it up as part of a much larger purchase he was making there. So I have yet to deal directly with Lin's staff or ordering proceedures.
