The tencha has shipped, well most of it. Those of you who live how we say not within the lower 48 have to wait. I need the dang post office to be open since I can't ship internationally with the automated mailing machine.
Expect it soon, I imagine some of you will have it this weekend to enjoy.
Also there are special other treats. Please note these were pretty much randomly grabbed.

No worries. I know that international shipping is a pain, and I appreciate that the good folks of ITD are willing to do it at all. I for one can be patientPentox wrote:The tencha has shipped, well most of it. Those of you who live how we say not within the lower 48 have to wait. Just in case people are wondering how to brew this stuff I've been experimenting with it and will start posting some results soon. So far it acts a lot like a gyo, but less grassy. I'm still experimenting with params though.
**Later**
Current notes are up on my Blog
I'll keep experimenting with the stuff, but so far it seems like brew it like a gyokuro.

Just got back from a labor day weekend in Pennsylvania and found the tencha package waiting for me! It looks lovely and I can't wait to try it...but first I've got to work my way through the Lupicia goodies. I sliced right through the packets when opening my envelope, so right now I'm enjoying some chiran yutakamidori. It's making me rediscover all the things I love about sencha, so I'm happy.
Thanks, Pentox!

Oh no! hopefully they didn't get mixed up when you sliced them. So you ended up getting the Chiran Yutakamidori huh. (Of my piles of samples there was only one of those). It ranks pretty highly on my list of teas from Lupicia.Mary R wrote:Just got back from a labor day weekend in Pennsylvania and found the tencha package waiting for me! I just opened an ichiba YM from O-Cha, I could have a very special comparison going on soon.
Thanx for all the samples! I have to look them up and see what I got. The needle form in the unmarked bag was as we spoke about a little while ago, right?

The Tencha seems so light and fluffy compared to gyo or sencha. I will definitely be weighing this precious leaf. Going to go check your blog and hope you have weight suggestions.

I've been using 1:1 g:oz for now. I have yet to experiment with higher/lower values. Given that this is acting a lot like a gyo, i'll try upping it to 2:1. 1:1 seems to already pack quite a punch though. It's a very odd thing to think about though with this tea if you take into consideration the normal values used for matcha compared to gyokuro.
Heh, i'm glad you're getting the chiran as well. That's the one that Mary is currently downing.
The lupicia plant strikes again!

My samples were decidedly Japanese. Cool.
They are all new ones for me. Hate to go off topic, but I decided to try the Yukamushi Yutaka Midori, having had the O-Cha from Kagoshima only a couple hours ago. Tencha is too special for me today since I cannot focus on it today as I would like to.
I can clearly taste the YM varietal, very similar on the surfase to the O-Cha. But I sense this Lupicia is lighter steamed, thus having a little more astringency and thinner, not as "mellow or thick" as the O-Cha. But the rich root flavor is very similar that reminds me a bit of gyokuro.
I like it, it is like an O-Cha YM with bite, perhaps more balanced in that regard as the O-Cha had very little astringency.
Tencha tomorrow

One thing to think about is that the Yukamushi is a shincha, which explains the lighter steaming.Chip wrote:My samples were decidedly Japanese. Cool. They are all new ones for me.
