Wednesday TeaDay 9/10/08 Craving Pu-erh?

by Chip » Sep 10th, '08, 03:14

TeaDay is upon us, let's brew and share what is in our cups today, all day!

Yesterday, there were several loyal white tea enthusiasts, but the overwhelming majority of TeaChatters are not craving white teas. Interesting. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic continues to investigate the Crave Factor of different teas. Today, we find out about Pu-erh! Do you crave pu-erh, what is your personal Crave Factor for Pu-erh? Please share.

I am once again finding that I crave sharing TeaDay with everyone, bottoms up!

Proinsias #3

by Salsero » Sep 10th, '08, 03:33

One of three sheng puerh samples from Proinsias. Along with the thoughtful gift, he provided the names of all three ... but no key to align the samples with the names. Actually, I am enjoying puzzling out the mystery teas. It is one of the following:
  • 2005 Haiwan sheng
    2003 Mengku sheng
    2001 Xiaguan sheng.
Well, whichever it is, I crave it! Thanks, Proinsias!

I do crave the pu.

Currently drinking an 06 Xiaguan. I always seem to stab myself when prying from an iron pressed cake.

I do like pu a lot, but have only had shu, some of it not very good quality, so I don't think I can tell really. Having some mysterious Sheng sample in the cupboard and will post pic of the wrapper to get it identified... but so far it's there waiting for me, untouched.

I will get more sheng and good shu at the end of this months. So are my plans, anyway.

Now having Yerba Mate (felt for something green with coffeine). Earlier I started the day with Ceylon tea from Kenilworth estate.
The noise comes from the other side of the mirror

Pu is something which I have never explored but am meaning to have a go with in in the not too distant future... To be honest it seems a bit daunting, don't really know where to start! Starting the day with some Yunnan Grand Imperial.

It's the only tea I really crave now...being a heavy coffee drinker before getting "into" tea probably helped me a little bit too. I wish I had found Pu-erh before anything else.

I'm not much of a puerh-ist, but I have liked it fine the few times I have tried. No cravings, though.

I have the same experience. I love what shu I have and keep finding "the best yet", thankfully. Like EW, I wish I'd found Pu Ehr first, but then I probably would not have been so excited about trying anything else.

Cannot resist. it's the ony tea I have bought a yixing especially for.

Not gonna vote. Have never tried a real Pu Erh tea so I don't know what to say. Have to deal with that soon, but simply haven't had the money to cover Pu Erh as well.

Think I'm gonna try Gyokyro Kame-Giru-Shi for the first time today, looking forward to it.

The fish cup returns for a master stroke. Nice work Salsaman.
As for the poll, it has inspired me to make some shu.

No puerh for me for a while. Not I don't like it but I have already too many teas.

Miyabi sencha in a few minutes.

Nice work Sal :)

No, I don't crave Pu because I've never tried Pu before
Even if I wanted to try it out, I don't think I am too educated on it enough to know which one is best to try out. Plus, there isn't a lot of tea drinkers around me here that actually drink any Pu. So trying to get a hold of some to sample is a bit tricky

I would like to try it out one day though because it sounds like some good stuff.

Oh yeah, sencha fukamidori for me this morning hehe.

Tried Pu, did not like. I didn't try good pu though. I'll get around to that someday.

Today I shall drink some pouchong.

I also have to vouch for this method of making tea in the laziest way possible on the go.

The morning rush to school is now a little less stressful.

That method sounds like a great idea! I've got to try it one day when I'm on the run :)
Thanks for sharing!

I think I'll bring a puerh toucha with me to work today in honor of this poll!!! Seriously, most of the puerh I've tried is like rocket fuel (in a good way of course!). I haven't had much luck with finding a green pu or bing though.

So what is the difference between puerh and bing cha? Both tend to come in cakes right? Sorry, I am pretty clueless about this stuff :D

just finished the second steep of my farmer style shincha. Mmmmmm!
