can someone please identify my first matcha bowl?

by inspectoring » Sep 15th, '08, 00:56

I purchased this last night and really would like to know what kind of matcha bowl this is. From what I have read here, it may be bizen?
The texture is grainy except on the parts with light green paint (?) /coating.

How much should this be worth? I am assuming not much as there is no author signature. I think the girl at the store made a mistake - you see there was no price tag and I asked her how much this was. She immediately called her manager over the phone and told her that I was interested in purchasing a "damaged" bowl (refering to the green discoloration).
I paid - 1.99 + tax.

I'm no expert, but this is not Bizen, I think...

Looks more like Tanba ware?

If it's glazed, it's not Bizen.

The whole pot is certainly not glazed. The darker parts are very grainy - where as the lighter part is smooth as marble.

The whole pot is glazed except for the foot. Its a matte glaze, but still a glaze. Only the bottom of the foot is the natural clay color. Also its, therefore, defiantly not Bizen.

"Damaged" haha. Oh, my faith in humanity dwindles a little bit each day. Nice bowl, especially considering what you paid for it, even if we can't figure out what it is.
