Tuesday TeaDay 9/16/08 Craving Asian Teaware?

by Chip » Sep 16th, '08, 00:32

Welcome TeaFriends to TeaDay. Let's brew and share what is in our cups today, all day?

Yesterday, 2 out of 3 responders indicated they craved TEAWARE on some level, the top vote getter was 10, the highest level of craving. Somehow this did not surprise me. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic goes one step further. Asian-styled Teaware, crave it or not. What is your personal CRAVE FACTOR for Asian Teaware?

I am definitely craving another day of sharing TeaDay with everyone.

Me too Geek, almost everthing I have been buying or wanting to buy lately has been Asian.
Here is a pic of one of my lastest pieces. Inside the cup is Tea Masters Baozhong.

BTW - according to Gordon at Dragon Tea House the writing means:
"Harmony and fun. It is a poem which shows the view of a brook beside forest."

2006 Yiwu Mao Cha

by Salsero » Sep 16th, '08, 00:57

Everything a young Yiwu Mao Cha sheng should be with little of the drawbacks. This for sure goes into the Puerh Box Pass. A light and simple pleasure: somewhere between a green tea and a light oolong.

I have to say that asian teaware is really the only kind that appeals to me. Everything else is just too modern looking, unless it is antique in which case I would be afraid to use it. I think asian cultures put so much more thought and effort into aesthetics, teaware, tea ceremonies and tea in general. It's not just a drink as we tend to treat it in the USA.

I have a cup made in Taiwan I like a lot. I guess I'll vote a 10, since I'd definitely buy more.

I don't know if I own any non-Asian teaware.

Drinking some interesting Hawaiian tea out of my favorite pot.

Planning on diving into this:

... one of Tao of Tea's seasonal offerings. I have to admit, part of the appeal of the seasonal tea from ToT is they are always packaged in the "wonder" tin, which is a small, cute, double lid tin.

Wow, space, I love that crop, nice perspective!

sal, I'm afraid to stack up my cute little boxes like that, I try to forget how much teaware I have. Haha!

Very cute cup. For me it was the other way around, I love the asian teaware and have only recently begun to appreciate English wares. :)

Me too. OK, once in a while I stray and buy something that's in a more western style. But Asian teaware - especially the Japanese stuff - always makes my heart beat faster.

I am very tempted by those Tao of Tea seasonal offerings too. I was looking at that one - I had it in my cart - then I bailed out. I still may cave, the appeal of those small tins is hard to resist. Maybe I'll wait for your review though.

No kidding, huh? The only way to get the small tins online is to buy the seasonals. Luckily I can get them in-store. I've tried the Yu Ya, a decent, but not spectacular Silver Needle-ish. Very drinkable. Next I'm trying the Fire Rings.

Actually, I'm kicking myself for not picking up a couple others of the seasonals while I was at the shop. I might have to go back. ;)

Oy, I am very close to getting the Oolong - it's from Nepal - should be interesting.
And the Fire Rings and the Bohea. The bohea because when I was in Hawaii the plantation owner told me that his best teas come from his bohea plants.
