Thursday TeaDay 9/25/08 International Gaiwan Day?!?

by Chip » Sep 24th, '08, 21:21

Welcome one and all to International Gaiwan Day on TeaChat. All are welcome, no gaiwans required. I hope we can all share what is in our cups and Gaiwans today, all day!

Yesterday 50% of responders indicated that they craved TeaPots! You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic celebrates International Gaiwan Day. I hope everyone has off for this new holiday. If not, go to your boss now and tell him you need to leave work NOW.

So, after he/she tells you to get back to work or leave forever, have a sit down strike and brew some tea, maybe in a gaiwan. Then answer the poll and discuss the topic of the day. Do you own a gaiwan? If so, how many? Do you have a favorite?

By the way, what is the plural of gaiwan?

I am looking forward to sharing National Gaiwan Day with everyone. Bottoms up.

I own two gaiwans, both made of white porcelain. I use them mainly for oolongs and sometimes for chinese greens.

Keemun with my breakfast.

I actually don't own one, but I've got one picked out.

currently drinking speacialteas.com TKY Iron Goddess. I gotta admit, for five dollars per 100oz, it makes a really good everyday oolong.

I have 5 gaiwan, and I use them frequently. I had more, but I gave a few away, they make great gifts for people who are interested in tea, since they are inexpensive and easy to use. I love 'em. I don't necessarily have a compulsion to shop for or buy them, but when I make it out to Serenity Art, I usually pick at least one up.

My favorite is the white porcelain/red dragon gaiwan that has been posted on here several times. I have an identical one with a yellow dragon. It's purty too. :)

Nope, none for me. I've looked at a couple on-line but never took the plunge.

I'd never heard of a gaiwan until this last week when I joined TeaChat. Not really craving one yet.

Formosa Oolong (choicest grade from Upton) right now. Planning on some Adagio oriental spice later.

Ok, another teaware weakness, I have over 10.
The crazy part is I have only barely begun using them, I still
prefer western brewing for most teas.

I like collecting them, some more decorative like
my latest one:

I don't own one but would eventually like to get one and try 'Eastern' brewing.

Yunnan Grand Imperial from Palais des Thes this morning... I had a couple of friends over the other day who absolutely loved this tea! I have another half packet of it well sealed in cold store which I will save until after I have opened and finished my 25g of Keemum Hao Ya A from Teaspring.

Have a great day everyone!

Jack :D

I've got one. I have yet to find a design better than the one that I have as well. (btw you can all probably guess where I got it).

I use it for most teas that don't get make in my kyuusu. At least when I'm tasting for my blog. I find they produce a nicer cup than my tasting set. Although I haven't used it for a while so I may go back to the tasting set.

I have 4 50ml white ones that I mainly use as drinking cups. Sometimes I use them for brewing small samples. Then I have 2 90ml clay ones that I use frequently for brewing. Additionally I have 2 120ml in the mail.

In my cup this morning: GABA tea from teafromtaiwan.

I picked other because I have not idea what it is.

Although now I have a slight idea because of victoria's picture (you always have awesome pics)

(edit)

In my very traditional eeyore mug is some mango rose green that a friend sent me from Texas.

Wow! So pretty!

Sadly, I own only one gaiwan. They were intimidating to me at first but when a TeaFriend gave a fabulous Wenshan Baozhong as a gift, the gaiwan definitely was the perfect vessel for it. I would love to get a second one now that I'm comfortable using it.

Yunnan Gold this morning, of course!

I really want one, but none yet. I'm not sure how much I'd actually use it, but it seems like a pretty and nice thing to have none the less.

Today trying out a blend of hazelnut and chocolate chip, and very amused by the result!

Don't own one. You'd think I'd have at least one after spending 7 years on Okinawa with forays to Taiwan, Korea, etc. And, with Noritaki and Mikasa outlet stores nearby -- I never succumbed to buying "tea" accessories. Go figure?!

I'm sure there will be "one" in my future since I like the concept and simplicity.

This am I'm working my way through some nice white tea that I bought at a local emporium. It's "real" white, but I don't know the pedigree. :D

I did not know O-Cha sold gaiwan.

Pretty much ditto as far as usage, oolong, Chinese greens, pu-erh. I have 2 and it took me more than 8 years to get my first. I hasve to say, I don't know how I ever did w/out them, so versitile.

Adagio Golden Monkey is currently in my cup.
blah blah blah SENCHA blah blah blah!!!
