Sunday TeaRoom 9/28/08 What Food pairs with tea?

by Chip » Sep 28th, '08, 02:30

Welcome one and all to TeaDay. I hope we can all brew lots of tea and share what is in our cups today, all day.

Yesterday, Oolong and Black tea were top teas for pairing with foods according to responders. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today is another TeaRoom TeaDay on TeaChat. The TeaPoll and discussion topic is a reversal of yesterday's. What FOOD or Foods pair BEST with tea for YOU?

I am looking forward to sharing the TeaRoom with everyone this TeaDay! Bottoms up.

I picked "other" because there was no "all of the above" option. I drink tea with just about everything. (It and water are my two usual drinks.) Which tea I drink, and whether it's hot or iced, depends on what I'm eating, but a fruity iced black tea goes with everything except a very delicate meal. (I like green tea with Japanese-influenced meals, for example, and oolongs at my favorite Singaporean restaurant.)

I just made a pitcher of iced blueberry black tea, procured from my favorite tearoom. (I'm trying to use the bag up so I can order some from Adagio, whose fruit teas are much stronger than the tearoom's.) I'm drinking more iced than hot right now because I only have a limited selection of teas I like hot and I'm kind of bored with them. Next week I'll be able to fix that, though. Yay.

Quite all food (at least the food I eat) can be paired with tea if its taste isn't too intense (spicy food for example).

Keemun with my breakfast, now some karigane houjicha with my lunch.

I have been wondering for the past two days what tea one would drink with hákarl. The absolute worst low-grade shu might go well with it.

Adagio silver needle 4 bfst.

Shu is pretty versatile, but surprisingly so is a sheng with a little age on it.

It is hard for me to vote - everything pairs well with tea! I'm not sure I have a favorite "with tea" food. Though dark chocolate and tea can be a special treat.

My first cup this morning - Blue Nilgiri from ToT

Have a nice Sunday Everyone!

Still neglecting tea, I'm in a coffee phase for some reason as well.
I'm still looking for someone that would be interested being interviewed for my high school senior project. If you're interested please PM me. The topic is of my project is tea so please be tea knowledgable. I'm mostly interested on information of tea culture around the world.

What doesn't go with tea? I had sushi and green tea last night. I could eat it tat combo everyday. I never seem to tire of it. I might change it up alittle and have a tuna steak instead tonight...yum. Maybe I'll make it at home so I can have a more interesting tea paired with it.

I voted "other" because we need an "all of the above" option!

I drink hot tea with breakfast, no matter what the meal consists of. I drink iced tea iwth dinner, no matter what the meal consists of. This is the Midwest USA. We drink a LOT of iced tea here. Doesn't matter if it's at home or at a restaurant, if we're having Mexican, Italian, burgers, fried chicken or a garden salad. We drink iced black tea.

About the only thing I don't drink tea with is dessert. I like milk with my cookies!
Although my neighbors are all barbarians,
And you, you are a thousand miles away,
There are always two cups on my table.

Riene, I'm with you, "all of the above" should be an option, and I also drink hot tea for breakfast and iced during the day. I'm drinking a bit more hot tea on the weekends now that I got a Zoji and the weather has cooled off, but I still need some iced tea sometime during the day to feel normal!

This morning I have ceylon/assam blended, hot.

I think that since many teas exhibit chocolate flavors that perhaps dark chocolate would go well with tea. I would've chosen "other" also, because I think that some fruits can complement the fruitiness in roasted teas

Enjoying some Rou Gui from Hou De
