Tea Combos

by JM » Oct 21st, '08, 10:24

What are some of the everyday foods you enjoy with your tea?

I'll start with a couple...

If it's early morning I enjoy Irish breakfast with my (unsweetened) steel oats a handful of raisins tossed in.

English breakfast with a plain or ham and cheese tea bisque.

Tuna on toast with Earl Grey.

Earl Grey with almost anything sweet.

Green tea with a ham sandwich.

Green tea with ginger or spearmint with soy nuts or yogurt.

Green with cottage cheese.

I thought Chip was smoking something the first time he mentioned it, but I've found that I really enjoy chasing a cup of Japanese green tea with a little chocolate. The flavors really meld and compliment each other.

I've also found that after some sweeter senchas, I enjoy having chips. But not after Chinese greens as the salty ends up overloading me.

Hmm, my "food" items are both junk food. Maybe I need to find a tea to pair mango with. Or lettuce.

Hamburgers with intensely 'smoky' teas like Gunpowder or Lapsang Souchong

I've only just started pairing food with tea.. keep the suggestions coming!

I never really thought of paring food with meals to drink during a meal. But I have noticed that Earl Grey goes quite well with English Muffins and Preserves.

This article has a pretty comprehensive list of tea and food pairings. I'm heading home to have some buffalo wings and darjeeling.
