Thursday TeaDay 10/23/08 Tea and incense?

by Chip » Oct 23rd, '08, 01:09

Good TeaDay, TeaFriends. Please share what is in your cups today, as always, all day.

Yesterday, responders leaned towards sweet over astringency, but not as much as I had thought they would. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. Tsusentei asks, incense and tea, is this a good combination? What sorts of incense would you pair with your teas? Many people combine Japanese incense ceremony with some tea, some just like to create a quiet temple atmosphere. What are your thoughts?

I am looking forward to sharing tea and incense with everyone today. Bottoms up. Anyone have a lighter?

Interesting poll idea!

I love Japanese incense (esp. jinkoh/aloeswood) and I love tea, but prefer to "listen" to them separately. Otherwise it's like adding a whole other flavour to the cup.

And anyway, for me at least, incense can be such a profound experience, it's worth enjoying on its own.

I find multi-tasking overtaxing, so turn the incense down while I drink.

It gets in the way of the tea fragrance for me.

Yunnan golden tips with my breakfast.

Oh man, as delicate of aroma that some teas have, it will definitely be a waste

Agree with most above. Don't care for incense with tea.

Other for me. As much as I love the incense that I have, every time I burn a stick of it, the rest of the house doesn't like it too much. My parents are not the type of people to enjoy candles or incense, which some how made so I absolutely love them. I find incense to be very relaxing, especially with a cup of tea, but the enjoyment of the two together does not happen very much at all due to the picky people that I live with when I am not at college. College dorms tend to frown upon me lighting things on fire in the rooms so incense and candles are not allowed. My roommate does have a nice candle warmer, but it is not quite the same. The current candle that she has in it smells awesome though.

Currently enjoying blueberry rooibos before sleep.

Can't stand incense, but love incense fragrances. Go fig.

Though I like some incenses, I don't like so much the after-odor that can linger. None for me.

Gyokuro in my cup this morning... very intriguing.

Nope. No incense...too many flashbacks to album cuts and Boone's Farm.

Assam in the cup this morning.

I'd rather not have the scent of incense messing with the scent of my tea. I can't burn incense anyway -- my husband dislikes perfume-type things. (Which kinda sucked back when I was getting into Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab perfumes -- I'd put just a drop on and he'd hate it no matter how much I liked it!)

Irish breakfast in my cup right now, and the iced tea maker is brewing some lychee black tea for later.

That's what I thought till I tried the good stuff.

I prefer it in between sessions if I am going to use it.
Unfortunately I am quite hooked on the good stuff, which is
quite expensive. So I'd rather concentrate on one good thing
at a time.

The incense overpowers the fragrance of the tea leaves too much for me. So no incense with my tea. Too much is really too much in this case.

About to try Teavana's mate lemon blast- hope I like it...

I can't burn incense or scented candles while sipping tea if I truly want to focus on the tea. The other smells distract from the tea smell/taste.

Pineapple tea this morning. I get to pass out my chocolate covered cherries at work today. They are insanely sweet and rich but oh so good!
