adhesive removal from pot

by Cinnabar Red » Oct 29th, '08, 19:00

Problem here. The underside of the lid of a ungazed kyuso I bought had a store sticker on it. I pulled it off and alot of the adhesive stuck to the unglazed surface.
It still feels sticky. Any ideas on how to remove it without damaging the surface will be appreciated.

Try baking soda- dampen your fingertip, dip it in the baking soda and use it to gently scrub the surface.

If that doesn't do it, try a little vodka on a q-tip.

Yeah, these things work great: http://www.mrclean.com/en_US/products/eraser.shtml

Make sure to wet the pad and wring it well first, and rub the afflicted area gently. Depending on the nature of the adhesive, I might try alternating rubbing with the pad and with my fingers.

My surefire way to remove sticker adhesive has always been a ten minute or so sit with boiling water inside the pot, pour out the water and then wipe the sticky spot with a damp cloth
Life is like a cup of tea, savor it slowly or it will be gone too fast

Got the adhesive off. Only a faint imprint left behind. Thanks for the help.

Goo-Gone works really well to remove traces of sticky adhesive. The active ingredient in Goo-Gone is lemon oil (often used as a wood polish); so if you have any lemon oil in the house, you can use it as well.

Be sure to wash the item thoroughly afterwards if you use either of these, however, since lemon oil is unsafe (toxic) to ingest.
