How do you like your Rooibos?

Healthy herbs, rooibos, honeybush, decaf tea, and yerba mate.

How do you like your Rooibos?

by JM » Oct 30th 08 1:59 pm

I pour boiling water over the Rooibos and just leave it in the cup/pot till I'm done drinking it. I won't sip from my mug until it's steeped at least 10 min.

Anyone have home made recipes they use? Maybe ginger or peppermint added to Rooibos?

I personally love adding Spearmint to the mix. I don't steep it for 10 minutes because of the spearmint though. It adds a nice refreshing taste to the tea ontop of the earthy rooibos base. I want to make a large batch sometime to make ice tea out of it.

At the moment steeping adagio's caramel rooibos for the first time. Will see how it turns out.

Adagio's Jasmine Rooibos is one of my favorite teas ever. I haven't been able to get the same intense jasmine flavor by mixing regular rooibos with jasmine pearls though...

I'd also be interested in hearing what people like to mix with their rooibos (and honeybush), since I don't really like it straight up.

Update:

The caramel rooibos is great. To me rooibos just needs something to sweeten it up a little. I first did it with a bit of sugar, then did it with adding in spearmint. This caramel one though does the trick as well. I don't like sweetening it up too much or it stops tasting like rooibos.

To answer the title question:
I like Rooibos as far away from me a possible.

I like my rooibos without any flavor. Green rooibos is said to be better but I haven't tasted it yet.

I haven't tried it green. They do have it at my Houston tea shop: https://www.thepathoftea.com/tea_shop2.htm#100

Tonight I bought a ginger root to use for tisane. The piece I picked up was about 7" long, 4" wide and cost .64 cents. I cut off a piece about 1" and boiled it for about 12 min.

It was great! Nothing like the bagged ginger I've had which is a lot smoother, this was like ginger beer.

I added a rooibos tea bag to the brew and a teaspoon of honey, it's heavenly.

I like plain rooibos,vanilla-flavored rooibos and rooibos with spices. I recently tried to mix plain rooibos with chamomile and it tasted very nice and relaxing. I just put one teabag rooibos and one teabag chamomile in my mug and added boiling water. I let it steep for at least about six minutes. :D
