cracked Kyusu

by Cinnabar Red » Nov 1st, '08, 15:54

I really messed up.

I was cleaning my new kayuso, just rinsing it under warm running water, and rubbing the inside with a cloth. Later in the day I boiled water and poured it into the pot to further clean it. I dried it and let it air out overnight. The next day I noticed a long fine crack inside the pot.

Talk about brain fade. If the pot had been preheated, and the temperature brought up gradually, would the crack have been avoided? It's an unglazed pot.

Its not your fault. The pot shouldn't have cracked unless there was a defect in the clay in the first place –probably an air bubble.

Agreed. There had to be a flaw. It should be able to withstand some rather extreme temperature changes without a problem. Hell, mine go from boiling to cold water on a regular basis.

Defective pot. Try contacting the vendor. Maybe they will replace it.

Does it leak?

I own one that developed a bunch of fine internal cracks where it was not glazed on the outside, if that makes sense. Anyway, it has never oozed, period. I was bummed at first, but now accept it as part of the pots personality. It would be different if it leaked!!!
blah blah blah SENCHA blah blah blah!!!

My pot is mostly unglazed on the outside. I'll give it the ooze test.
