by Chip » Nov 12th, '08, 01:07

Welcome TeaFriends to TeaDay. Please share what is in your cup today, all day.
Please remember to visit the Teaware Contest in TeaWare!!!

Yesterday, most responders indicated they had either OK or good tea at work. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic again goes to work/school. This time, your teaware at work is great, good, ok, barely passable, pass me the teabags. Please share specifically about how you rate your work/school teaware.

I am looking forward to sharing TeaDay with everyone regardless of what you happen to be using to brew. Bottoms up.

Teapot Hotel

by Salsero » Nov 12th, '08, 01:29

I say barely passable since it is just a glass mug, infuser basket, gram scale (precise to only one-tenth of a gram :( ), and a slow acting thermometer. But tomorrow I am planning a little gyokuro session with a client, hohin and all ... mmm, chicken broth!

I don't know why I called this photo Teapot Hotel, actually it looks more like a parking lot.

That's the whole current family.

I say it's "ok" but I'm not happy with it currently, I have no nearby sink access, and my tea tray leaks. So I'm using brewing baskets and glass pots for the most part.
The only good thing is my kettle. But as I stated before all this is changing VERY soon. I have already ordered a few things - eventually I will do a before and after shot.

Very vivid pic Sal, I like that one a lot.

I use bottled water, a plastic kettle, a mug, and a Swiss Gold infuser. Ok for work, but not good enough for home where I have more choices.

I'd started by using a stainless mug, but that definitely adds a metallic tang when it's used as an infusion vessel, so I got a lidded ceramic mug.

I use an infuser size meant for a large pot -- I want it to be as close to the size of the mug as possible. That works well.

Somewhere between good and almost great. It's all relative, but there are two cups that I enjoy (1 clear and 1 bone china), 2 pots that I enjoy (1 clear and 1 ceramic), same kind of electric kettle as I have at home, blue willow metal serving tray, etc.
What's not to love?

We have a Ronnoco coffee station (since we distribute it) so I use a Ronnoco cup and tea bag. Not even remotely Ideal.

About to brew up a session of the 2008 Menghai Da Yi Hong

Now that's ironic.

Teaware? At work?! Hah, good one. For those without desk jobs or the like I live with barely enough room for a cup and it's generally spill resistant. No teacups, no kettles, no steepers, and all of the goods are left at home. My tea at work is on the go and always will be until I get a better job. Not like all of us young tea barons are IT tech support or network engineers yet, eh? Then again, I expect to be boiling water in a beaker with a chemistry candle (and more than likely a .0001 +/- .0001 degree error range or better thermometer) if all goes well but so are the dreams of youth.

Currently in my cup: a rooibos blended with jasmine ala Adagio. Color me impressed to say the least and more to looking for other suppliers to taste around rather than settle for one venue.

Post notes: good luck mooching, Vulture. Just don't sell your soul for tea as Mephistopheles tends to not come to programmers and like computer jobs due to xkcds's recent jokes.

travel mug, electric kettle and strainer. My same set up when I go on vacation. It works well enough for me.

My teaware is pretty much all good, not great. A major perk of doing my studies at home is that I can make tea whenever I want, using whatever teaware I feel like using. Of course, that doesn't stop me from primarily sticking to one of my ~9oz glazed kyusu.

Augh, I ought to be in bed right now.

Yep, pass the tea bags. That's about all I've got equipment and space for at work.

Actually, now that I think about it, I do have an upper cabinet that's mostly empty. But I'd have to buy a whole new set of stuff. And then I'm new at this job, so I'm not quite ready to let them know I'm crazy ;)

I say "great" because I have my digital scales, tea thermometer/timer in english/metric measuring cup, kyusu, water-catching corningware, and various sized cups.

And I take a yixing pot when it seems appropriate.
