Your favorite sencha, how many steeps?
How many times do you steep your favorite sencha? Please share who, what, when, where, why!
Not sure if I have a fav yet, although I really loved O-Cha's Fuka Supreme Shincha and Yutaka Midori. They've been all gone for a while, but if I remember correctly, I got at least 4 infusions per session, and probably usually did a 5th or more. Those 2 had lots of mileage.

***This organic blend is earthy & spicy, with a fragrant aroma & smooth flavor to captivate the senses. Naturally sweetened in the Kentucky sunshine & infused with natural energy. Equally delicious when served piping hot or crisply chilled.***

Yutaka Midori, 5 and sometimes 6 steeps if I need a virtual caffeine free tea later in the evening.
The 5th steep is not for everyone. When done well, it is merely sweet tea water, but it is nice. All the other flavors have been peeled away revealing a nice gentle sweet nectar, very basic, not complex at all.

For me it depends on several things....how much of it I have.....if it is new.....For example....If I get a sencha with a couple other teas all at the same time I am more likely to only steep it 2-3 times becuase I am excited to start trying the others I just got.....also, if I have a lot of sencha I am more likely not to push it so hard since I know I am not going to run out.

Hi kongni, I am curious why you would only go to 3 while fasting??? No offense please, but if you would imbibe then, why not always instead of wasting it by throwing down the drain? I really prefer not to throw things away that are still usable.kongni wrote:I never get past two unless I'm fasting. Then I'll drink a third steep because I would like a hot, mild beverage with little to no caffeine.
does that make sense? guess I just like my tea too much and I will take to the last 'steep' possible. Of course, that is just my opinion, just as you are entitled to yours. I was just wondering.

The best sencha I had was the Shuppin sencha HG from horaido, it is classic old fashioned Uji sencha, first infusion in a houhin 1 minute, one and a half table spoon for 120 ml water, second infusion 20 sec, third 40 - 50 sec, it is intesnsive and with instant aftertaste, bitter + peaches, with leghtsteamed sencha the bitterness shoul be the underlining, and it should have sweet aroma and aftertaste.
In fukamushi category the Yutaka Midori breed is my favourite.
