I was gonna say the same thing about that message but I didn't want to be a pest.

Ditto.
I was being lazy, I guess.
Or perhaps, in a rare moment of loss of mind, being nice to Ilya. :)

Not at all. Thanks for pointing that out to us. To answer your original question... For the first two months of TeaChef, we sent everyone a sample, but on month three, someone added us to a freebie board. 3 days and 5000+ sample requests later, we realized we needed some form of filter.

What's the filter? Or do you just limit the amount of requests?

Aww, LadyA, I'm sorry - I totally didn't mean it to sound that way! I just always feel like I'm hounding Chris & Ilya and I figured someone else would be good enough to point it out.

I can attest to this with a funny germane personal anecdote. Day before yesterday, I use the freezingest bathroom in the office suite. In my haste to get out of there, when I turned around to zip up my pants, some toilet paper from the dispenser got caught in the back of my waistband. We're talking a two foot long segment of TP here. And I proceeded to walk around my office for the rest of the day with it there, totally unawares. When I left the suite at the end of the night, the girl at the front desk said nothing. The woman I rode the elevator with said nothing. The lobby's security guard said nothing. The ticket collector and the other people on the train said nothing (although, in retrospect, nobody sat next to me). I was clueless until I walked into the apartment and The Boyfriend said to me, "TELL me that's not TP hanging out of your butt."

Me: *horrified bemused expression* "NO. You're kidding me."

Him: *one eyebrow raised, wary expression* "No, I'm really not. Dude, it's huge."

Me" *feeling around the back of my waistband* "OhmyGOD!"

I collapsed in a fit of giggles that left me wheezing and coughing (as I still have a damn chest cold) and entirely red in the face from embarrassment and, oddly enough, delight.

Moral of the story, kiddies? Totally be a pest. It's really OK.

Oh, thats sooo not fair! To you guys and to us. Plus, it wasn't 'free' per se. We got a sample, and you got a recipie! (yes, i know i didn't post a recipie the last two months, but october, insparation never hit, and november, insparation hit too late. Seriously, i have a fun take on pumpkin pie with roibos.) Wait till I find the #%$ who added you to the freebie board! I'll make them PAY! hehehehe.

Wow, that is insane and a cruel thing some jerk decided to do to Adagio. I've been watching the TeaChef site for a few months now but didn't request the samples to the teas so far such as the Jasmine or Roobos which I knew from before I didn't like and hence would not interest me in cooking experiments. Still since ou clearly need to implement a filter I think the fairest policy would be to either limit it to people that have either ordered tea from Adagio before or make everyone give a credit card number and have them agree to pay for it if they do not come through with a meaningful TeaChef recipe using the tea. Although knowing some people you might also have to add a “meaningful and intelligent clause” to prevent people from sending in stupid recipes for the sake of sending something to get credit like lets say tea flavored coffee made by mixing equal amounts of dry tea leaves and coffee beans before brewing in a coffeemaker.

So what's the filter?

by judhav » Jan 16th, '06, 13:04

I was reading through this post, and got to the end without the question being answered...

I did TeaChef for the first time this month, and enjoyed it. I'd like to do it again, but I'm curious as to what qualifies or disqualifies me for a sample.

BTW - everybody go read my recipes using the Lapsang Souchong!

Judy,

There are a number of factors we look at in determining who qualifies for the samples. However, if you have submitted a recipe in the past, you're a shoe-in.

Having been a regular participant on those types of forums, many people's moral structures quickly collapse in the face of the prospect of free or cheap stuff. I imagine a huge portion of the people that requested samples do not even drink tea on an occasional basis.

It's hard be active in those forums because of the minority of evil people that just ruin it.

Tea Chef

I also just recently applied for the tea chef sample, it sounds like fun to try.

How will I know if I qualify? I'm a newish customer here, but I have made four orders and I post pretty regularly on this forum...I'd like to do it, but how do I know? Does the sample just show up or not show up?

Don't worry about it, I'm sure you are one of the people that the factors they look at are designed to keep in especially since you have placed several tea orders before, as compared to some person that they have never heard of before.
