How many years of pu do you have?

One of the intentionally aged teas, Pu-Erh has a loyal following.

How many years of pu do you have?

by puerhking » Nov 22nd, '08, 11:28

My equasion is......5 grams a day for 300 days of the year which = 1.5 kilos per year divided by 5.6 kilos of pu = 3.7 years worth of pu. Of course your consumption may be greater.

Im sure some of you have more than one lifetime worth......lol.

Using that equation I am good for 1.5 years, though I only have pu once a week so my number is higher. Planning on a adding another kilo to it by a puerhshop order this week. Then another 3 kilos for Christmas

What a horror: I could barely make through the rest of 2008 with 2.25 drinkers in the house. When you put it that way, PK . . . maybe I should get shopping??

With all the recent purchases, and my drinking rate, I should be good for at least 20 years or so. Getting kinda scary.

I've got about 400g (4/5 of 2 250g bricks).

At 8g/day (allowing for one 7g pot/day and 1g of waste (erring on the side of caution)), I'm good 'til the first week of the new year.

Hopefully, another 500g (2008 Dehong brick ordered yesterday from YSLLC) will arrive by year's end.

But, to be safe, I should probably order another beeng or three from some state-side vendors.

How long will 300 kilos last? Can I live that long? Or will I live longer by sharing the tea?

At the rate i'm going I really don't know...

I'm using close to 10g in my pot per session (does that seem like a lot for 150ml?). The collection currently consists of 5 cakes, 357g each. If I only do one session a day, I'll be good for a little less then half a year. I think I might be ordering a bunch of those yuan nian cakes from scott...

I'm impressed that you can make a cup of tea with that amount of leaf. From my experience, 5g of leaf (after fully saturated) usually displaces roughly 60ml of water leaving me with 4oz. So in theory, 10g would use up 120ml leaving you with one ounce of tea. Course, I've never measured my pot to see if it really is the advertised 180ml. Still, cant see 10g having enough room to fully expand in a 150ml pot.

Sometimes you see 1 gram per 30 ml water given as a standard, by which measurement you would use 5 grams. I find myself drifting upward from there lately, but not all the way to double, maybe 25% to 50% more.

Of course, as always, the real rule is whatever works for you, your style, your tastes.
