Monday TeaDay 12/01/08 Best of the month?

by Chip » Dec 1st, '08, 01:14

It is December already. Well, welcome to TeaDay anyway. Please stop by often and share what is in your cup today.

Yesterday responders marooned on an island would possibly use a coconut for their teaware and not "Wilson." You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. Time to pick your fave tea of the past month. Please share details, details, details.

I am as always looking forward to sharing TeaDay with everyone.

India for me. All those delicious Nilgiri and Darjeelings - I so neglected my oolongs to the point of craving them and going on a couple of unscheduled oolong buying binges.

It was a great month for black teas.

Japan for me! All those wonderful greens Toru-san sent me from artisticnippon.com have really been hitting the spot these last few weeks. A nice high grade sencha, a karigane (kukicha), and awacha.

Japan as almost always for me. Koyamaen sencha was phenomenal, a wonderful traditional sencha. Also had a wonderful lupicia sencha from Miyazaki.

Love the tea scoop sal, where'd you get it?

In addition to my regular Japanese greens (fukamushi and kukicha) I've been drinking a lot of the Chinese from Andao Teas lately.

I've got Adagio's pouchong to enjoy with breakfast this morning. . .

November favorite tea for me would be Matcha Kaoru Supreme, been having that pretty much every day this month. But also started on some black teas towards the end of the month. Some Yunna golden tips, some Darjeeling second flush and some Lapsang souchong. Needed some autumn tones in my tea to match the current weather and season here in Norway :)

Handed in my first paper for this semester today, two to go! Gonna celebrate that with some tea soon, but need a quick nap first. Didn't finish before 04:00 last night :s

Our new Assams from Mangalam came in a week or so ago, and that tea can quickly become my favorite go-to tea, however the majority of the month was playing with gong fu and oolongs...so I'm going to have to say China.

I'm still enjoying the Margaret's Hope darjeeling. As the weather has cooled at bit I've started drinking spiced chai more often, but the darjeeling is still my "go to" tea.

That's what's in the cup this morning.

I interpreted the question at face value and picked Chinese because that is what most intrigued me this month. But if I went with what I liked most this month, it would have to be my tea of mass consumption (as in drinking and not in the old terminology for tuberculosis), Assam blend from India.

In my cup this morning, the other black beverage. On the television, one of my favorite movies, Tora! Tora! Tora! Older movie but rather than the typical (for the era it was produced) representation of Nipponese as being evil incarnate, you get to see that they were honorable men serving their country while the government was under the control of certain elements in the Army (Hideki Tojo) who wanted war with the United States at any cost. On the American side, you get to see that the intelligence officers had all the information to give warning, and they tried, but certain politicians poo pooed it all, and a series of stupidities which played right into the blood bath that was Pearl Harbor. For me, the movie brings up more questions than it answers, like why didn't the Japanese continue with a second wave followed by troops?

Ah well, going to watch the movie.

LOL - dunno why I chose Taiwan when I meant to choose China, blame it on Monday. Eh, oolongs from China of course.

No tea yet. Just had some Italian coffee to start my morning since I needed something strong to keep me up (insomnia kicking in again; happens every fall/winter). I do plan on having some monkey picked oolong next.

Happy Monday!
