Thursday TeaDay 12/04/08 TeaGift hinting?

by Chip » Dec 4th, '08, 01:09

Welcome one and all to TeaDay, please take a moment to share what is in your cup today.

Yesterday, most responders were thumbs down on regifting tea related items. You can still vote and reply to yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. I guess it is gift topic week. Are you dropping any hints for tea related gifts (or planning to) this coming holiday season? Please share. Are you asking for anything specific?

I am certainly looking forward to sharing TeaDay with everyone. Bottoms up!

My family isn't really tea aware except my little sister. I plan on just getting cash to support a new laptop purchase this xmas.

Nope, but I'm sure I'll get plenty. Coffee and tea are easy gifts for people to get me...

Lipton loose leaf this morning- British Style- (cream and sugar).

My hint was as follows: a direct link to my Adagio Wishlist, a link to a screenshot of a cart through Twinning's site, and a very fitting 'do not buy this mildly costly tea unless you wish to spoil me' image with a few other links to sites. I give very strong, direct hints during the holidays as anytime I try to be subtle with anyone but my father it ends up as a muddled mess with me getting yet another teaspoon instead of a large steeping pot with a glass/steel mesh filter.

In my cup: some Oolong from Vulture. More precisely it is in the leaf form awaiting water in this French press I've been using for leaf samplings. Rather useful for all but rooibos, it is. Now to wait for a kettle.

No hint dropping here. If I want tea, it'd probably be best to buy it myself.

Enjoying one of those 'monkey picked' oolongs this morning.

I won't be dropping hints about tea-related gifts. The risk is too great that I'll end up with stuff that's optimized for teabags.

Today I'm getting some excellent enjoyment out of a White Assam, courtesy of Victoria (thanks!). It's very fragrant for a white, it looks great in the cup, and it's altogether yummy (technical term).

I have to be really careful about tea hinting or I'll end up with something abhorrent, like one of my favorite teas from a different vendor who throws in a bunch of flowers. BLECH! Keep weeds out of my tea! Flowers in garden, not cup!

So if asked, I'll go with a safe one and suggest Bigelow's Pumpkin Patch. It doesn't come in loose form yet and is a limited run, so that should be safe.

Maybe I'll hint about the incredible figural tea set I found on eBay. Very kitch - teapot is in the shape of a mixer, canisters are cups, toaster creamer, things like that.

It's really easy hinting to the husband person. He's already given me my Christmas present, the one size fits me "Here's the debit card, don't go over X dollars on your teas and don't forget my River Shannon blend." I had to negotiate, since the River Shannon blend is our daily tea.

Now to remember who had the Ryobi electric tool set on sale.
Jeanne - I never met a tea pot I didn't like.

Definitely! I asked for a gift certificate to Adagio and I also have some teaware in my Amazon WishList. I hope to, with the gift certificate, pick up some stuff to make it easier to have tea at work.

Today's TeaDay is all about Taiwan, and nice gifts. Ali Shan oolong from a friend who recently returned from Taiwan, some lovely celadon made by hand in Taiwan, and a matching rice pattern cup that just came my way.
