Re: New to tea, I need some help finding decent teapots. (EU
since you're new to tea, try not to get too worried about having the perfect pot. simplicity is important though. think about how much tea you want to brew per pot and pay attention to the volume of the pots you look at. for example yixings are incredibly good tea pots and will make high quality oolong or black tea taste better, but are usually no larger than 5 ounces, and are generally used for gong fu brewing. if that sounds good to you.. go for it. if not, go for a bigger pot.
japanese tetsubins are very nice looking, but the cheap ones are generally lined on the inside and cant be used to heat water, which is what tetsubins are supposed to be used for. they are tea kettles. on the other hand.. my first teapot was one of the cheap lined tetsubins and i loved it, and still occasionally use it.
go with trial and error. chances are no matter what pot you get you're not going to be doing everything right for a long time. go basic by getting something like the petit teapot from adagio. soon youll know what you look for in teawares, and what brewing method suits you best. you can start making tea now, while you sit back, go on teachat, read tea blogs, and learn about all kinds of great stuff. trust me, in about a month you're not going to need to ask anyone which teapots are decent.
