Tuesday TeaDay 12/09/08 Goofy tea tin?

by Chip » Dec 9th, '08, 01:46

Is it another goofy TeaDay, time will tell. Welcome everyone, please share what is in your cup with us.

Yesterday, more responders had goofy teacups than did not. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. It is goofy, or it can be unusual. Do you own a goofy or unusual, or even special tea tin, canister, or other tea storage vessel? Maybe more than one, maybe lots. Please share about one ... or more.

I am looking forward to sharing TeaDay with everyone?

I've got one special tin. It's the stainless steel tea caddy made by lupicia. It's a double lidded stainless caddy. The base is almost seamless, it's crafted of two stainless steel bowls nestled inside of each other and welded together. The two lids form almost vacuum seals just on their fit alone. They don't make a pop sound like many other double lidded tins do when you remove the inner lid from just a few tension points. Instead it's a slow air draw. Almost perfect seal.

It also has it's own spoon which rests in the inner lid.

Sonice.

Oh yeah, and it's from that place that's not like Teavana. They don't carry anything like this.

I just have stainless steel double o-ring sealed jars that cost about 8 bucks a piece...they work really well and I keep them in a dark cabinet. I dont have anything goofy to store tea in...

Gyokuro Fujitsubo

Mmmm, can't think of a single exciting piece, neither not from the place that is not like Teavana nor from it. Love the stainless caddy, Pentox.

On the other hand, this gyokuro is so precious they have set a dragon to guard it.

Hm, I don't have any special(ized) tins... yet.

I do have a cookie jar shaped like a guy with a sombrero taking a siesta, though. . .

I'm enjoying my last sample of Adagio's Oolong #18 this morning. Hm, maybe I should get some new tea, and maybe a new tin to put it in? :D

All I have is Adagio and Harney Tins. Nothing real goofy about them.

Drinking a chai blend at work atm.

Seems that I have the first unusal storage vessel. Not only does this chatsubo from Tokoname prefecture look like a space alien, it is begrudgingly storing a half pound of 2nd flush Darjeeling. It mutters at me under its breath as I walk by, but I can't understand it's Japanese rebukes.

Edit: By the way, Japan experts *cough* Chamekke - you can see I have a collection of boxes on display - one of them has a lid that has bowed out on both sides. Is this a normal seasonal change in humidity, or is permanent damage being done to my little box? I have a small piece of masking tape on the top and bottom center lid to keep the whole thing from falling down.

I have a selection of Porcelain jars ordered from online tea sites. I have a selection of Kitchen Canisters with rubber ring seals and clasp locks. Perhaps 1 day I will invest in some special canisters with Japanese paper, or Prized pottery but goofy is not on the horizon!

This morning I have just finished  my 7 Cups Snow Orchid dan Cong

:D Now I can order something different
Best wishes from Cheshire

No tins. Lots of plastic containers and a dark desk drawer at work and dark cabinet at home! :D

Margaret's Hope this morning.

That's pretty much what I use for bulk tea too. I have one nice stainless jar similar to what Pentox has and the rest of my tea are in smaller sample tins and Adagio buckets. I don't think I own one "real" tea tin...

Upton's Ceylon green Young Hyson this morning for a change. Last of the sample but probably not a re-order either. The leaves sure are pretty, though...

I have an 'antique' tea tin filled with old teabags from a local company that went out of business before I knew they existed. They still have a website though, now that I started looking. Weird.

www.ghfordtea.com

I also have a Haribo candy tin from Germany that is housing all of my herbal teabags.

I only have one nice or special tin, and some tins from Upton and SpecialTeas. The rest are tins the tea came in, the best of those being the double lidded Tao of Tea tins. I have been looking though to find some to make storage easier, but since my storage is hidden, it's hard to justify the price.

But I see once of those nice Lupicia ones in my future.

In my cup this morning: ToT Darjeeling Prithvi

Have a nice day everyone!

I don't have any special or goofy tea tins. I just have a whole bunch of Adagio, Teavana, and Tea Fortè tins. I think I have too much Teavana tins though since I've been getting them for free. I might just bring some to work to put my paper clips in hehe.

This morning, I totally forgot to bring my genmai cha with me to work
So I'm having the last of my Alishan now from Adagio. Still craving that genmaicha...

Getting them for free?

I have had my eye on this special one for sometime now:

I just have no room to display it, and that would be sad.

That one looks awesome; would love me one of those.

Well, free as in handed over to me from my boyfriend since he works at teavana. He, on the other hand, is the one that pays for it at discounted price. So free for me :D
