Holiday Wish-Lists!

by Sam. » Dec 9th, '08, 12:22

I thought it might be a fun and useful idea to have people let us know what teawares they want this holiday season, as a gift to buy themselves, receive from others, or give to others.

I think I want to upgrade to a second kyusu and I'm also interested in buying my first yixing pots (maybe two, for yunnan gold and tie guan yin). As a college student I'd be looking at rather inexpensive wares.

But share with us, what do you want or what do you want to give? We can all get ideas from one another on how to better empty our pockets!

I originally asked my fiance for an English style teapot, but then realized that the site I sent him to had terrible shipping rates despite the inexpensive pots, so unless he found a different one, I don't think that is going to happen for Christmas. I am hoping to get these gaiwans to match the cups we found in the basement. Dad seemed pretty receptive to the idea since they were sold through Amazon. It comes in a set of two, which will be fun for side by side tastings.

The "Gainesville Tea Buzz" had a meet today at which I swore that I wouldn't buy any teaware for a while. Do display stands for my yixing pot collection count as teaware??

Olivier - the Arita rice pattern cups show up somewhat infrequently on USA eBay,
are they being sold in stores in Europe? Or Japan? I was thinking they are discontunued.

A bigger kitchen, and maybe a tea cabinet in another area so that I'll have room to store more things than I already have. I would prefer an Oriental antique for this purpose... :-)

Got this from taobao (the Chinese kind of ebay). Shipping is steep and there is painful waiting :P

A tearoom is much better than drinking tea in the kitchen, the japanese even build a separate house for this pourpouse, and a garden too.

I need a bigger kitchen for storage... my New York City kitchen is small, like most kitchens here in Manhattan.

A private tearoom or tea house (even better) and a garden would be wonderful. But I'd have to move!

As it is, I drink tea at my desk while working or in my livingroom.

If you really focus on your tea you can feel good wherever you drink it, when I drink a matcha I feel like I am in a beautiful garden. Sometimes when you drink great tea think of the mountain that produced it, because you are breething in it`s essence.
