I have been looking around and the cheapest I have found is $5 for 4oz. All I want is a plain Japanese Green Tea. Not Roasted or Smoked. Just Plain and simple.
Oh and either someplace online or a store in Souther California near LA
Thanks much,
Rob

$5 for 4oz. is almost cheaper than what you can get from a green tea plantation right on the siteStonehenge541 wrote:I have been looking around and the cheapest I have found is $5 for 4oz. All I want is a plain Japanese Green Tea. Not Roasted or Smoked. Just Plain and simple.

But for most green teas, like what they say, "it's treasure within 1 year and it's no better than grass after 1 year". Many green tea, after 2 years in storage, is worth nothing. Gunpowder is an exception. It starts cheap, but doesn't deflation rapidly.

MOD comment, I moved this topic to Green Tea where it will be more at home.
Many sites sell "plain" Japanese green tea, but cheap is not the way to go when it comes to Japanese greens. It is no longer cheap when you buy tea after tea and do not finish the bag because it is undrinkable or mediocre.
Green unroasted bancha is usually pretty cheap, try googling green bancha. But there are good 2nd flush sencha availble for a few dollars more. Expect to spend more for a better first flush sencha.
In answer to the poll, PLAIN, nothing added, but ocassionally I do add some honey to a batch of iced/cold brewed Iced tea.

blah blah blah SENCHA blah blah blah!!!
I agree, $5 for 4oz is shooting for some really low end stuff. Especially when you factor in the price for this stuff to be imported (i.e. support some import company) and the transportation costs. When was the last time you got something from Asia at a transport cost of under $5?
I would suggest trying something a bit better and working your way down if you really need to consider costs that much.

New to Unflavored Greens
I really like the taste of straight greens after trying my Adagio green savant sampler, but I want to try other vendors too. We tried a Teavana flavored, but all we could taste was strawberry and rhubarb, not tea. If someone knows of a reputable vendor that sells good tasting greens for less than $12 an ounce, please let us know. Respectfully,

Teaspring has some nice greens in 25gram samples sizes. Many are around the $12 per oz mark.
Jing Tea Shop is probably worth checking out as well.
For Japanese green you can't go far wrong with O-Cha

Re: Thnx
No, Teaspring is great. I don't know if I have had any teas from them that were just absolutely superb, but I have always been pleased with my purchases.whorton5 wrote:That Teaspring seems like excellent range of choices and prices...I assume no one has had a bad experience with them.

Thanks for helping me Spend
Well, not wanting to miss out on one or the other, ordered $70 worth of O-Cha and $70 worth of Teaspring. Should last me a while, I'll let you know which I like better. Ordered Kabusecha, Shizouka, and Fukamushi -- Will tell which is better.
