Gingko for ITD

by ABx » Dec 22nd, '08, 16:54

I kinda liked the last time we did this and started a topic before a poll.. I thought that was the better way to do it, so though I'd do the same here :)

Gingko has been around since September, but has 300 posts - and all of them seem to add something of substance. She does have something of a "quiet voice," as in a rather unimposing presence, but I think she makes valuable contributions. I think that the lack of avatar also dampens a person's presence on a forum.

She also has a great passion for tea, and although she seems to talk most about wulong and puerh I know that she is also into Chinese greens and probably others. She's knowledgeable but humble, and very friendly. I have to admit that I didn't really notice her until we started talking about zen8tea and decided to swap samples, but I did always appreciate her posts even if they didn't particularly stay at the forefront of my mind. She also wanted to know about their pots.

Looking at her posts she does appear to have quite the collection of tea - she definitely has the obsession of an ITD'er in my opinion :D

I would vote for her, absent any compelling arguments against. I like her bi-cultural perspective, solid knowledge base, and pleasant manner.

I like that I had to do a search to remember who in the world she is, and I'm still not much clearer. Sorry :(

Sadly she doesn't pop onto my radar as well.

From gingko's profile page:

Her postings to TeaChat
Her tea blog (Gingko Bay Life in Tea Cup)

Haven't had time to read through these myself (and like some others, her username doesn't really ring a bell), but I'll take a peek tonight.

Yup, like I say, I was the same at first as well - she just has a very subdued presence that has a tendency to kind of fade into the background, but that's part of why I wanted to bring her up.

I always see her posts and think that they're good - she seems to know quite a bit, definitely has the passion, is always friendly, and contributes well. She also has over 300 posts in 3 months, so I'm sure you guys have seen her posts. I think part of the problem is the lack of avatar. But yeah, check out her posts, they're almost always good ones. I actually felt a little silly for not noticing her earlier. But yeah, check out her posting history. Once you see her posts you might just remember some of them :) She posts in a lot of different forums, including TeaDay (for those that keep up with those).

Yeah, in English the tree is correctly spelled ginkgo (somewhat counterintuitively), so I have to keep reminding myself to spell it the other way where the name of our TeaChatter friend is concerned.

Crazy English spelling.

She's not really on my radar, so at this point I might just abstain from voting. Reviewing her posts, though, she's got the enthusiasm and the tea chops to be here. I'll try to pay more attention to her.

Maybe if someone politely suggested she add an avatar her posts would be more memorable. I also skip right over a ton of posts, I have a tendency sort of like speed reading, almost instantly assessing text on the Internet. It helps when ripping through a few pages of google search results, or... our own Puerh forum.

I'll bring it up, since I'm already PM'ing her.

For me it's just that I'm reading through and I like her post, but I never connect all those posts to the same person. Even though people can't post anonymously, not having an avatar still kind of registers with me like an anon post.

Hey, did you hear something? Sounded like a human voice, but so-o-o faint...

{peers around searchingly}

Can't see anything. Must have been the wind.

 Heh, Proinsias got in by default, in fact, we did not even know he was in ITD for around a year, in fact, neither did he come to think of it.
