Friday TeaRoom 12/26/08 Are you "different?'

Welcome everyone to TeaDay, please share what is in your cup today.

Yesterday, 60% of responders indicated they received TeaRelatedGifts. Amazingly, nobody voted about receiving TeaBucks, but maybe some received gifts and bucks. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. TeaDrinking in most western countries usually falls far below coffee consumption, thus we are somewhat "different." Do you follow the beat of a different drum in other areas of your life versus following mainstream trends and tastes? Please share how and why if you answer yes.

I am looking forward to sharing TeaDay with everyone, bottoms up!

You are asking if I stand out as a weird and dangerous freak? Yes. And I blame it all on the pollutants in Chinese green tea.

Yes, definitely. I never got my way much as a child, so when I grew up, I wanted things my way, things I liked and I wanted - versus trends.

Drinking Starbucks would fit nicely into the little Orange County culture,
but not for me.

It's a bit of a tricky question or me. Most people I know try hard to fight mainstream and individualize. But in my eye that is becoming mainstream. So I'm somewhat counter counter and I like the mainstream. I used to be a big starbucks junkie, I embrace corporate America and I'm a bit of a stiff. So I'm so counter, i'm main?

I don't try to fight mainstream but I drink, eat, buy and do what I like.

Yunnan golden tips with my breakfast.

Quite a bit different from normal people.

Got a few tea goodies yesterday but going to wait until I get home before trying anything new. Coffee night here at work.

I'm very different from most people in my area. No one really knows what to think of me. I usually dress up when most dress down, my music is mostly indie when most listen to mainstream, my fragrances are mostly niche when most wear designer (or worse), and as for my tea addiction? I really lose people with that one. Most every aspect of my life is different than the norm in some way or another. I've always just done my own thing not caring much for what others thought.

Great question! I voted that I'm different but not bizarre. :D

I usually shop where no ones heard of it, listen to music groups that most don't know, didn't send my son to preschool (horror of horrors where I live), use different exersise routines that no ones heard of and I could go on!

Yeah, I march to my own beat and you know it's rather fun being me!

It's funny but my little sister is the same way. It must run in our genes.

I don't know where the tea thing came from. My parents were always heavy coffee drinkers and I never did acquire the taste. I do confess to loving the way coffee smells.

Jade oolong in my cup this morning. I'll do some sencha before the morning is out because I've been dreaming about it....Chip - there is a daily question, have you ever had a tea dream????

I often feel like I'm different from "normal" people. I think it's the antlers.

In my cup this morning: my first taste of Keemun Concerto. Not bad at all, but not as exciting as Yunnan Noir.

A bit odd, I am. :D

Waiting on the Golden Monkey to steep. *smiles* Only here could I say that and not have people wonder if they needed to call someone about me.
Although my neighbors are all barbarians,
And you, you are a thousand miles away,
There are always two cups on my table.

I've always been curious and have had many differnt interests and hobbies. Unfortunately, my eldest son inherited this trait! :D

I've managed to supress my nature to bounce from one job to another so I've always made sure my family is taken care of. Not complaining, just fact! :)

Lover's Leap pekoe in the mug this morning. I'm a wage slave so I'm at work today!

Not really the question whether you TRY or not, but does it happen, whether it is a natural extension of your being, or whether one tries it.

I think it is a natural extention of my being to be different, always being aware that I was "not normal" which sounds nicer calling it "not mainstream." I just seem to gravitate away from mainstream trends and tastes.

A really awesome start to the TeaDay, Yabe Organic Sencha from Japanese Green Tea Shop. Every time I have brewed this, it has come out really nice, today I made it with more leaf, wow, so nice. Sweetie agreed by drinking it up greedily. Fortunately, Wulong, Pyrit, TEAh and Ceylon showed no interest.

 I am enjoying the "different " posts. :D

In an effort to conform to Ron's TeaTastes, I am about to brew Adagio's Yunnan Noir that I received as a gift.

Sometimes we think to be different, but it isn't that simple.
