Monday TeaDay 12/29/08 TeaResolutions?

by Chip » Dec 29th, '08, 00:37

Welcome once again TeaFriends to TeaDay. Please share what is in your cup today.

Yesterday on a quiet day on TeaChat in general, responders were pretty split on the subject of whether they were working on a NYD resolution. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. Do you have any TeaResolutions for the new year? New teas to try, new teawares to pour, new ways to brew, old ways to brew, new vendors to try, old vendors to return to, spend more, spend less, buy better teas, buy more everyday teas, drink more tea, drink less tea, the list is endless it seems. Please share.

I am again looking forward to TeaDay with everyone. Bottoms up.

Well, I really need to emphasize sampling and learning about what I have on hand and avoid mindless purchasing. I was once proud to be THE SAMPLE KING but now I have gone over the line to be BURIED ALIVE!

And now ... on a more pleasant note but with a similar palette of colors:

It has been a great year of learning and discovery, but an expensive one. Both in teas, many of which didn't work out; and in teaware which was needed. Next year I will spend way less, now I have a better idea of what I love vs. what I like. I will return to old quality vendors and be more selective with new ones. And I will thoroughly enjoy my new teaware.

Unlike Sal, I need to buy more samples (scary pictures for this time of the night :x)

Focus on tea tasting in a more thoughtful manner

Think less about teaware as I have enough, and it can become a distraction

No tea resolutions this year. I didn't make any the past years and I had great teayears anyway.

No real tea-type resolutions here.

I need to drink down the pile I have--two dozen sample tins, new box of Ceylon, misc interesting-looking bags bought on travel.

Yunnan Gold in the cup this morning. I have decided that the Yunnan province grows the best tea in the world. Your mileage may vary, of course.

And you, you are a thousand miles away,

My resolutions look a bit like Victoria's. The past year has been expensive and has involved a lot of experimentation, which, of course, means buying some teas that I end up not being too crazy about.

Thoughts on tea buying: I recently went through my collection of teas and calculated price/oz. for each of them. I noticed that there is no correlation between price and how much I like something. I love Ceylon tea, which is almost always dirt cheap. Of course I also love Darjeelings, which are more expensive, but my favorite Darjeelings are not necessarily the most expensive.

In the coming year I see myself:

1. Spending very little on teaware--I pretty much have what I need.
2. Not being in such a hurry to try every kind of tea out there.
3. Focusing more on quality teas for everyday consumption (Darjeeling, Ceylon, Keemun).
4. Drinking more green (Longjing will probably figure prominently)
5. Continuing to explore Wuyi oolongs (but not too much, 'cause they're pricey)

I would like to try some Japanese and Chinese green teas that I haven't sampled yet. I would also like to get a yixing pot for darker oolongs and dedicate my 10oz yixing pot to black teas. I will probably try at least one new vendor, but definitely make a few purchases from ones I have bought from previously. Of course drinking more tea is always something to strive for.

Maybe... staying away from buying expensive tea ware?
I don't own any expensive tea ware yet, but I can sense it's a deep water hole under a deep lake... Yet so tempting... and I can feel I am being dragged and sliding toward it. Therefore maybe I need a resolution here

Yes, definately Tea New Year Resolutions!

1. Post more and become an integral part of TeaDay/TeaChat :D
One day I hope to be able to impart my 'teaknowledge' to others
on this forum. But I still consider my self a 'newbie for sure' so not
even close to that yet!

2. Continue to learn more and more about tea/teaware/vendors
through our great forum!

3. Aquire lasting 'TeaFriends' here at
TeaDay/TeaChat. After all our common denominator is that
"WE ALL LOVE TEA :!: :!: :!: "
So what better place to share this and more about 'us' if it works. 8)

I just got back home and wanted to quickly post in today's topic,
my sister was a trooper for posting for me while I was away,
{ Thanks a bunch Carlie}, however she dropped the ball last week,
so I have alot of catching up to do. However,
that will not happen until later today. I am anxious to catch up
on my TeaDay posts!!!

I missed everyone and am glad to be back. Pix of course
gorgeous Sal :D Can't wait to see all the ones
I missed...from Geek and Brandon too.

Have a FAB TeaDay!
In my cup YM from O-Cha....Oo La La! 8) Yummy
