Private Tea Room

by Pentox » Dec 30th, '08, 13:09

I vote not such a great idea. However, let me explain.

On another forum, we have a couple of "back room" areas that are not at all visible to the general forum. One piece is for moderating - we pull threads to this area and discuss what went on to have the thread pulled...it's also an area where moderators can vent, if needed. Additionally, we have an area for very senior/founding members (which we add to occassionally to keep fresh blood in the gene pool!). This is kind of a BOD where new ideas, trends, etc. can be hashed out. A disgruntled former member "leaked" this to the general populace...however most members understood the need for this "private" area and it became a running joke that the "Illuminati" resided in that area!

We also have a seperate, membership only, political forum -- seperate moderators, etc. We found it useful in moving these types of threads, discussions to an area that you really had to want to get to.

So, if there is a need for a "private" area it should be invitation only, hidden from the general populace, and not "hinted" at or alluded to in the "front" of the forum.

Just my $.02 worth. YMMV.
My mind is boggled! How would something like that ever come about or work!

I know, I think I counted something like 5 references to exactly what we already have going.

It makes me wonder if there is an even more secret secret room. *starts banging on wall panels*

Actually, there's a couple. They've got the Mod Squad forum where they stick all sorts of horrible threads and try to contain discussion about what goes on in the forum. And Chip's created his own little playground to store TeaDay topics and such 'cause I was a bit of a house cleaner with the MS forum and often deleted a lot of older or fragmentary threads there. One such tidying episode swept away a few of his 'drafts,' which he wasn't all that happy about. Chip's also started a draft of his vision of this "TeaHouse" stuff. And I saw yesterday that he'd deleted all my commentary there as to why I thought it was an exceedingly bad idea.

Nice.

*shock* The truth comes out! At least some of the hidden nooks and crannies hiding in the land of Teachat! I somewhat knew about all of those though tbh.

But perhaps this is just a cover for the super secret uber hidden forum!

How come your posts total is only 2?
Aren't you a mod anymore?

I was about to ask that too - the former question at least. Mary, it looks as though maybe your profile was lost and then recreated or reset, since it also appears that you joined TeaChat on Dec. 30, 2008!

Maybe this is purely a technical hiccup?

P.S. Glad to see that your posts are now up to 3, though. That represents an increase of 50%! :)

I think that's what happens when you mess with Chip.

Nope, that's pretty accurate. I resigned from modding and when I went to change up my profile I got caught up in all the little checks and unchecks and accidentally deleted myself.

Smooth move, eh?

I'm not a complete idiot, though. I was always paranoid I'd do something like that (and that it would cause TeaChat to implode upon itself...but that's another story), so whenever I'd tinker with my own account, I'd always first create (and then later destroy) another shadow admin account. After I deleted myself, I just changed the name and address of my shadow account to my old username and e-mail. Easy peasy.

So this is why I have four posts. Yay me!

I'm not all that fussed about it. Fresh start and all. Plus it really, really freaked me out to have 1600+ posts to my name.

Um should I start getting worried about mine soon then?
