Please write me a review???! wth?

by Geekgirl » Jan 9th, '09, 18:30

 I got a request from some tea company to blog an "editorial consideration" for their teas on my "tea blog."

They said they do not have the ability to send out samples, so I'm wondering just what it is I'm supposed to review at my "tea blog."

Also, it's primarily blended teas and flavored teas. Which apparently I'm supposed to review without sampling?

Plus... and this is the one that really gets me... WHAT TEABLOG???

I don't actually have a teablog. I've written about tea on my blog a couple of times in the last six months or a year, but???

So you people who do teablogs, is this typical behavior? Do new shops often write you to ask for you to promote them, but not even offer to send you a tea sample for your review?

Maybe it's just me, but I think that's weird.

Yes and no.

I got the exact same email you did, i'm guessing it's from Zoomdweebies with their 52teas.com thing. I've gotten a few emails like that in the past, but not asking for a review so much. I've had offers for link exchanges and banners w/o having tried their product, which is somewhat against my philosophy so I tend to decline every time.

I think they pretty much spammed a whole bunch of people out there. They may have gone through teachat to look for profile pages for people's blogs. I dunno.

I think they're just trying to promote it w/o spending money.

Sounds like April Fool's Day 4 months early.

Sometimes you just have to laugh at the bizarre tactics of spammers and spammer wannabeez. This tactic seems to cry out for negative blog commentary IMHO.

That one was the first that asked for free promotion, with nothing in return. Normally they at least say they'll put a link to your blog on their website.

Yeah, I was actually tempted to say that this program sucks in comparison to Adagio's sig blends.

After I included a Teavana tray in my tea table post they contacted me and asked to be on my vendor list. I replied that I'd be happy to include them as soon as I sampled their tea and found it good. I never heard back.

Still, I've had many more respectful, rational inquiries about reviews than stupid ones. Trouble is they often come from teabag companies, which probably wouldn't benefit from a review at most tea blogs.

I've gotten numerous ones for other companies, but the general rule i've been going by is vendor list links are only for vendors who i've had their product. I think some of those vendors are just looking for links to up their google page rank.

Got the same email. I ignored it before I even realized they weren't going to send me anything, haha.
