High quality incense

by ABx » Jan 11th, '09, 04:18

I've seen a couple of posts in ITD about primo incense, and now I'm curious about it :)

I used to like incense when I was younger, but since then I've developed something of an aversion to really strong perfumey smells. I've never liked perfume/cologne, for example, unless it's something subtle, complex, and probably expensive. I do, however, like some incense - it's just that I can't usually stand it long enough to do much good and so I usually put it out after like five mins.

One thing I loved was when I first got my new coffee and end tables (they're a set), which are made from birch. Those made the living room smell great for a good 2-4 weeks. Then again when I got my futon/frame; the frame is made from rubberwood but I think the futon itself had a sort of bamboo-like smell. This actually combined with the smell of the tables for something that was really nice, natural, and complex. Of course it didn't last. :(

So can someone point me in the direction of some really high quality incense? Ideally I'd like something that smells at least somewhat natural with subtlety and complexity. Something that smells exotic without making my nose hairs curl up and die screaming in agony. I guess that would be to say incense that isn't made to cover up the stench of hippie grime and dope.

After all, what I really need right now is another expensive obsession :D

I wish my respiratory system didn't insist on going wonky when exposed to most incense. :/
