January Yiwu Tasting Notes

Kicking off the tasting thread, please sticky.



Fantastic wrapper design by our own Tim.
It has sat for a few days so it is ready to taste

I started with 2006 because I am so taken by its wrapper. Unfortunately the USPS was not very kind with my leaf, and I was only able to get one session out of the 2006. Tea is amber sliding towards orange, seems to not be doing too badly in Tim's "too dry" tea room. This gives me some solace in my own random collection of cakes improving. If this tea ever had a bitter note, it is gone now, even with the fannings provided by the Postal Service. Just the right amount of sweetness. A tasty tea.

Hold Up Dear Friends! Very Important. Please do allows 5 days + 1 before tasting....

Here is my recommendation:

1. 3g/120ml. Do long brews, 1 min/1st. 1 min/2nd. 2mins/3rd....
2. 7g/120ml. Rinse, rest 2mins. flash/1st. 5sec/2nd. 10sec/3rd. 30sec/4th. rest, 10sec/5th.... Try to match the color on the pic if you can.

5 days later.... This is a reference photo of the Yiwu '06 spent leaves. If you can see the difference between the thickness of the shoots compare to other spring harvest puerh. Enjoy and happy tasting : )

I tried the 06 today, and I made a complete mess of it. I tried to guess what three grams looked like and ended up putting the entire package in. tried teh long brewing, and while it smelled wonderful It was particularly harsh.

I'm sorry Tim. I'll try harder with the 05.

10g in 120 ml vessel? Boiling water, Shorter steep might help? I guess you must be buzzing high : )

Keep brewing the 10g. Hopefully, it might surprise you la.

I had a similar experience; I am still a huge noob when it comes to puerh. After a few long brews I switched to shorter ones though, and it turned out pretty nicely. Sweet, mushroomy, and a little citrusy. I wish I had more to offer in terms of tasting notes, but like I said, huge noob. Thanks for the sample Tim, I'll try the '05 soon!

Just finished a session with the 05. One of the best puerh I've ever had.

It was really hard to describe this one. A friend that tried it with me said that the taste "put her at a barbeque." I couldn't help but think of a hay barn right after a soft rain. I know that doesn't sound appetizing at all, but thats my two yen.

Out of all the teas I've tried, this has had one of the thickest mouthfeel. The quality of the leaf is wonderful and I'm glad I got to try "the good stuff" when it comes to puerh.

I tried the 05 today. Again, I am ashamed by my noobishness, as I don't really know how to describe it. Sweet, thick mouthfeel, and a bit of a bitter kick (though less than that of the 06). Though I have described it pretty poorly, I really did enjoy it regardless. Thanks again, Tim!
