Tuesday TeaDay 1/13/09 TeaChat influence?

by Chip » Jan 13th, '09, 00:28

Welcome fellow TeaAficionados to TeaDay. Please share what is in your cup today.

Yesterday, reponders by a small margin voted they would not be adjusting their tea consumption this week, but many will be. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic was contributed by Shelob, many thanks! Shelob asks, "As you continue your tea journey this year, do you plan on venturing out into other 'types/categories' of teas per the suggestions and reviews/suggestions posted on TeaChat?" Please discuss.

I am as always looking forward to sharing TeaDay with everyone. Bottoms up!

It's always good to try other teas, good tea experience.
Also you can educate others about what you like and don't like about the tea.

Nonpareil Long Jing

I hope and pray that I don't find still more kinds of tea to get involved in. If I were to get brave, I would probably head into the whites for a while since I have always neglected them and I sometimes hear them calling to me. Or maybe those dozens of other kinds of Japanese tea: like bancha and kukicha and what'sitsnamecha.

Right now I am finishing off a very satisfying Douji Dadou recommended by the boys at the B&B ranch and dug out of my stash where it has been hiding since I bought it. I comes in a funny little bricklet, appropriately about the size and shape of an ATM card.

Oh Brandon, avert thine eyes.

I liked yesterday's photo much more. It was a great one.

I liked yesterday's more too. The only thing I like about his one is the yellow against yellow. I'll try harder for tomorrow's! Meanwhile, here is a consolation prize, the ugly spent leaves of this ethereal Douji Dadou sheng bricklet.

I figured that I would start off slow in tea and just focus on Green and Oolong, and then later on, it would leave myself new experiences with different types of tea like Blacks and Puerh. Within greens and oolongs I'm pretty much going off of what other people recommend. Wuyi Oolong in my new gaiwan tonight. I really want my Ocha order to come in so I can start trying the good Japanese greens.

Not really related but-
To my dismay, when I opened my Rishi Gaiwan today, it turned out that it wasn't exactly what I was expecting. I thought it was just going to be a pure, "bright", clean white set. Unfortunately, everything has a very slight green tint, like someone was dyeing easter eggs in and around it, and then it got lightly stained green. I went back and looked at the listing and saw that it was a "Duck Eggshell" gaiwan, and that "Rishi’s Guywan is made with glowing white jade porcelain". The green is very subtle and doesn't really show up well in pictures, but as I looked back at the picture I could kinda see the green tint. Oh well, the color is growing on me slightly...

I am a big fan of white porcelain, but that one sounds really nice. I have always admired its shape when I have seen it on their website, but the color sounds like still another distinctive feature.

I will definitively read the suggestions/reviews posted on teachat to find new teas.

Keemun with my breakfast.

Probably. There are precious few teas I rather firmly know I don't/won't like, and sometimes I'll even (re)try some of those from time to time when others are enthusiastic about them.

Time for sleep.

It's very likely. There are some great tasting notes here.

Nah for me. I don't need to get involved with more than what I'm involved with now. I don't have the $$$!

Some shu pu to start the day since I couldn't sleep.

I will definitely be trying out stuff people recommend. I still haven't waded into matcha or certain general types, so I'm looking forward to that in 2009. Probably not going to try bug-poop tea, though. At least, not actively search for it. . .

Trying out 2002 Hai Lang Hao Mengku Wild Arbor sheng. It has a nice orange tint to it when brewed and still has a strong flavor. Scott's notes say "nutty" flavor, but I'd like to know what nut tastes like this. . .

Phew, for a second there I thought this was a gaiwan stuffed with 2008 sheng.
I was already planning Sal's funeral. That is still a lot more leaf than I use for long jing, though.

Still always learning about tea, will be continuing to try different things.

Not drinking anything at the moment. Might try some Keemun later.

Today I had:
Jinfo (golden Buddha)
Shuijingui
and I am going to drink some Laocong SX right now!
All Yanchas day in and day out.

I am open to trying teas suggested on teachat, but mostly Japanese ones. And hopefully some Korean ones, but they are not popular here on the Teachat.
