Welcome TeaFriends to TeaChat. Please share what is in your cup today.
Yesterday most responders indicated their guestimate was 4-6 vendors for 2009. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.
Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. How many NEW TEA vendors do you expect to try in 2009, your best guestimate? When sharing, why are you trying these new vendors?
I am looking forward to sharing TeaDay with everyone. Bottoms up.
The new TeaChat contest is only a few days away in honor of the Chinese New Year. Thus far, I have kept a lid on what the contest will be, stay tuned.

Another hard question. I can't imagine trying less than 3 new vendors ... but at this point I don't know who they will be. Oolong from Zen8tea for sure and Yame gyokuro from Zencha (quite the coincidence of names!), probably some tea from the estimable Pentox's fav Lupicia (because I want one of their tasting sets) and I suppose there will be more ... but I also want to order more from my regulars!

Hm new vendors for the year.
On my list to hit up so far:
Kaburagien
Maiko
Chado
JGTS
And that's just in the Japanese category. I've been branching out into oolongs more so and so there will probably be a good number of vendors added there.
And sal, good to hear you want to try out the wonders of Lupicia. Let me know when you're going to order and I can give you some suggestions.

ehhhhhh I want.... I plan to go on a major tea binge this year. Particularly Japanese green tea. Some I'm aching to try...TaiPing Hou Kui wrote:Hmmm...if you count random Asian Markets/Asian Stores then it might be over 10....but if you count specific tea "vendors" it will probably be 3-5 new ones. Anyway, my new Hagi Yuzamashi is in! Along with a miniature hermit crab figurine and a new sakura bark tea scoop!

Maiko
Ippodo
Horaido
Kaburagien
Charaku to name a few...
4 to 6 new vendors for me this year. I just placed my first order with O-Cha and will be placing small orders with Tea Gallery and Tea Habitat in the spring. I'll probably order from at least one other new vendor (Sevencups, puershop, ...).
Finished yesterday day with An Ji Bai from Jing and Jun Shan Yin Zhen (yellow) from Upton. This morning tea is Shui Xian from Hou de.

Yeah, same for me, 2-3. I've tried an awful lot of vendors this past year,
have narrowed down my favorites, but I'm always open to something new.
There is a Canadian vendor I want to try, but I've lost the link. When I find it again,
I expect to buy for sure. You know the one you just can't get off your mind?

I went with 4-6. Of course, that's me thinking about places I'd like to order from that I haven't done so yet. The problem is, to use a classic phrase, "I don't know what I don't know." In other words, I have no idea how many tea vendors are out there that I haven't even stumbled across yet. (I've seen lists of links, but never walked through them all). If I knew better, maybe I'd say 15+. Then again, there is that $$ limit...
Trying out the 2006 ChangTai Banna Tuocha this morning. A tightly packed shu, but still easy to pry using a cha pick. Brewed up really dark, has a great pu taste, but also has some lighter, rounder taste to it, not heavy and muddy...

Ooh Sal, that Gyo looks delicious...
I said 4-6. Could be 3, but I couldn't imagine trying fewer than 3 either... Last couple year it was more like 10 new sources annually, but I've settled into a few choice vendors I'm pretty loyal to. Gotta try
Drinking Assam Meleng, and bringing some Ito En matcha to work...
guitar9876: Ippodo will not disappoint. Try the Wakamatsu matcha, and the shincha come spring...
