The Gold Standard in Tea Idiocy...

by Mary R » Jan 24th, '09, 00:05

I poured boiling water over my hand today.

Yup. That's right.

Even worse? I was staring right at the cup when I did it. Wasn't distracted one bit.

Ugh.

I hope you're all right, Mary.

(Lavender essential oil is very effective, by the way. I always keep some on hand for the burns I invariably sustain when ironing clothes :) )

I always burn my hand when I have a long gong fu session. when I'm reheating water the heat and steam from my already heated gaiwan cause me to drop wicked hot tea all over my desk and usually myself.

I'll learn one day I'm sure.

I made a guy blow cappuccino out his nose in a restaurant laughing once.

Poor guy was still laughing while rolling on the floor in agony.

Ooch, I feel for Padre's cappuccino guy.

I did not drop the cup or any tea. In fact, I drank it all down right after I pulled my first aid prowess.

I'm okay. I thought it was going to be a lot worse, but my hand is really just fine today. It was just a bad scald. My skin still sort of gets those painful tingles when I move my thumb or index finger or if I touch it...but there's no blistering or even much redness to speak of.

I survive to brew another day...today!

EDIT: Hey, I have 1500+ posts again! Was Ilya playing around the forum?

Also, as a result of our rampant ghost posting....

You are banned for 36 years.

We let Padre do most of the posting. Clearly that was a bad decision.

Ugh, I feel your pain. A few years ago I spilled a whole cup WAY over-microwaved, extremely hot, secretly boiling water on my hand. Despite treating it pretty rapidly with cold water soaks and Silvadene, it hurt like murderous hell. At the ER the doctor said it was a hair shy of a 2nd degree burn and then fed me Percocet to cheer me up. The worst part is that you feel like an idiot.

Oh I know all about embarrassing self-inflicted injuries. One time I got a rock stuck in my ear at school, and another time I got two neodymium rare-earth magnets stuck in my nostrils. They are very difficult to pull apart as it is, and the added slipperiness from my nose juices didn't help. I know, I'm a real winner.
