Yesterday I was tasting a sample of the 2007 "5th Intern'l Aged Puerh Appreciation" Memorial cake from Hou de. I thought it had great complexity and it gave up many infusions.
When I examined the spent leaves I found this pod-like thingy (see picture in Flickr - how do you include within post?). Never saw that before - what is it?

The picture wont come up, the site "has the hiccups" again
I have come across the same thing recently in one of my "old tree wild arbor" cakes I picked up - I've never seen them in the plantation stuff. At first I thought it was a stone, but after finding several and looking closer they appeared to be of some organic origin - so seeds I guess?

Bought the seeds online and have 2 2yr. old plants going. have pics of them round here somewhere. . . .
Tea seeds are quite hard to get to germinate, especially because of their hard shell. What I did was put 1 seed in a peat pot about an inch down and put int in a mini plastic greenhouse. I then kept a grow light above it going for 8 hours a day. It took about a month for them to germinate. I planted 6 seeds and got 2 to germinate. Since I had results with this I did not try this other method but I heard it helps germination. If you get a file and carefully file down the shell so its thinner it will germinate quicker. Or if you let the seed soak in water overnight then plant it. I dont know if these methods work or not but you might want to try it.
