you can
order direct from tokoname 2009 catalog at:
tip: Once you are viewing a single page you can click again for a closer view of the pot you want.
If you can't find what you want in the catalog it is possible to email them with a picture of one you like and they can tell you what catalog number to order. Both Victoria and I have done that with good results.
Generally it's about 20% cheaper or better and more fun than ordering the same teapot elsewhere.

Yikes, pics or it didn't happen!
btw for those of you looking at this the first time here is a key to what the numbers mean.
<catalog item (highlighted in yellow)> <size (small lettering)> <price in yen>
The size is keyed to this chart:
and you can use the google search feild to do the yen to dollar translation
1000 yen ~= $11 at current exchange rates, shipping via EMS (recommended) usually runs around 15 bucks.

Initially I had wanted the one showing on the top left of the catalog picture. When I received additional views, it appeared rather reddish brown with the silver glaze, I was hoping for black with silver. So I ended up with one from the artisan section:

Second row, second pot.

I ordered one off a page that had a sasame filter at the top. It arrived today. It's very nice but it has a 360SS filter. While I like the pot, I would not have purchased it if I had known. Is there any way to tell what kind of filter is in the pot? I ASSumed that the thumbnail at the top of the page applied to all pots on that page. derr.

I thought so too Geek - but I always ask to be sure.
Yes, Tenuki, that's the one!

I always ask a bunch of questions like filter type, volume, etc when I put in my order. Last time I specified I wanted a particular pot with a particular filter type and was directed to one that fit my needs better than the one I thought I wanted.
vic, that is one sweet pot!

I have never bought direct from them, bit daunting when faced with a bijillion pots. I already suffer
from acute analysis paralysis. I look often though.
I had thought the filter was the one pictured on the page.
The craftsman pages are a bit annoying, no info on many of the pots including prices.
But I was able to find some kyusu I had never seen before from several craftsmen I follow.
Nice kyusu, Victoria. Will it ever taste the green leaf?

I have enjoyed ordering from them, but have found the colors and sizes to be more random than I expected ... and then there is the issue of the filters as Geekgirl points out. Also, as Chip says, it takes literally hours to look through all of them. There are some wonderful pieces there, however, and the prices are unbeatable.
There are also some things that are not in the catalog - like shiboridashi and hohin - but a Mr. Takeyoshi KOJIMA has been helpful for me in the past, much as Tenuki reports.

Only by today I learned how to read their online catalog
Do they ever have smaller than size 10?
Although it takes hours to go through the pages, it's great for internet window shopping
Edit: I saw a size8!
