The year ahead. ???
Well as we all know the puerh bubble in China is popped. Prices have been falling consistently now. I am wondering do you think we will begin to see prices drop through our sources too, like Puerh Shop and YSLLC?, this year? I would love to see some of the blended cakes hit $7.00 per cake or even lower. Thoughts?

i think the more important question is if '09 is a good harvest year... leaf quality and all that....? im sure there is something like that to consider too...
would anyone who has expert opinion say anything or comment about 08' harvest in general? some cakes are actually pressed with mao cha from the previous year... so it does have another factor to it right?

By no means am I an expert but I was pleased with most of the 2008's I've had. You do bring up a good point though, most Dayi cakes are blended with previous years leaves so they may not be effected by the drop. But seriously, If I see Dayi cakes going for $7/beeng I will most defiantly be buying some tongs.
I hope the quality continues to rise like it did in 08. If we get an even better quality tea in 09 I'd happily pay the same prices as in 08. Regardless of quality however, I don't think we'll see prices that much lower this year. 08 cakes were still marked high above margin compared to Chinese prices, most Dayi tongs from Scott after the "secret handshake" discount were roughly 115$ before shipping. A tong of 8542 (which we didn't even see in 08, but China did) is 255 Yuan, or 37.21$. I'm not saying it's a complete ripoff though, because if you look at how sharply the prices fell from 06/07 then you'd understand that Scott was already trying to reflect the bursting bubble, but if you drop too quickly when in 09 it might have risen back up for all we knew then he'd have bigger problems on his hands. He's still one of the cheapest sources with the biggest selection in the Occident so don't think I'm picking on him with this post.

I am sorry to hear that.heavydoom wrote:i am not buying anymore pu erh tea cakes/bricks period. end of.
other teas will get my deserved attention this year but not pu erh tea.

But, MOAR for us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just found out that in China Dayi cakes go for about $3.75/cake. That is madness!!! I must go to China.
I wish it were as easy as that. I was in China this last summer (including Kunming) and I was unable to get the "Chinese price". Since I don't speak any Chinese and look very American, I couldn't get the best prices even after long negotiation. Believe it or not, but I actually got a better deal with Scott as my middleman than I was able to get on my own.shogun89 wrote: Just found out that in China Dayi cakes go for about $3.75/cake.
