February Tasting Notes

by Victoria » Feb 17th, '09, 02:33

Well most of the packages are in the mail Tuesday morning. The internationals may take another day or two till I can get to the post office. (Grrrrrr to customs forms.) ABx, yours went Saturday, Chip yours will be a bit later.

As you all know - this is a tasting of Old Bush Dan Congs sparked by my trip to Imen's shop - Tea Habitat. Imen recommended it to me and I immediately fell in love with this beautiful smooth tea, and really wanted to share it with you all.

Old Bush Dan Cong: '08 Da Wu Ye - Big Dark Leaf
Not much info on her blog about the tea, but those who want to see the dry leaf pic may click here:
http://www.teahabitat.com/store/index.p ... ucts_id=46

And here you will find Imen's Brewing advice:
http://tea-obsession.blogspot.com/2008/ ... -cong.html

As a comparison I am also offering from Hou De:
2007 Winter FengHuang WuDong Old Bush DanCong "Huang Jing"

I had not tasted this tea before choosing it as a 2nd tasting. If I had, I might not have included it. I am hoping some of you may favor it more than I did. The first is really so perfect, I really didn't need to offer a 2nd. While I thought the Hou De leaves were extraordinary to look at, I found the tea rather ordinary. I apologize for that!

Here are the packages before they were ready to fly!
In the not so in-focus picture is the Hou De offering in my cup.

You can see that the Hou De bags are nearly twice as large due to the fluffy leaves. I am sending 15g of each tea. Enjoy!

I was playing around with video editing this morning, something I always wanted to get into but never have. I made a useless but hopefully entertaining video of wrong fu dan cong. I'll be removing the trial banner a little later.

By the way, I promise I have a tshirt on the entire time - the camera angle looks a little weird on my bare arm at one point

Nice vid, i'd suggest putting the camera at a different angle though so you don't block it when you pour. Like if the camera were to the left of you or across.

Another Padre in the making!

How can you make a video with software? I thought you needed a camcorder or a phone or a video-enabled camera. Do you hook up a camera (like the one we used for video conferencing) to the computer? Would my Photoshop CS3 do the same thing? Is the earth really round?

Premiere Elements captured the video from my attached web cam, removed all the extraneous parts, let me add transitions, add a soundtrack and mix it with the recorded audio. You can also add a narration track to the final cut.

Thanks all! I enjoyed your video Brandon, thanks!
Think I'll go brew some right now, since I started my day
with coffee when I was out and about.
