"The Gimp's Room" Pumidor

by heatwaves » Feb 22nd, '09, 19:25

After many failed attempts at finding the right storage solution for my puerh stash, I think I finally found the right place. Under my stairs I have a little storage area that is cool, dark, neutral in odor and retains a little humidity. I dubbed it "The Gimp's Room" after Pulp Fiction. The Gimp also help guard my tea!

This is a peculiar little piece of architecture.

What could be lurking through the doorway???

The wire shelving system aids in air and humidity circulation. The temp & humidity monidor is right next to the shelves. (The room actually goes back another 4 feet, but I sealed it off with a plastic tarp to hold in more humidity). The trays on the bottom are cookie pans line with damp towels that are replaced weekly. I plan on investing in a Hydra Humidifier to see if I can get the humidity up to 65-70% -- it's currently at 57%.

The puerh guardian... The Gimp!
Luckily, no one was harmed during photography as The Gimp was out scavenging and carousing.

Wow, that's awesome! That really is like the perfect spot.

Dare I ask about the smell? I mean, gimp aside.

This is, without a doubt, the single sickest post I've ever seen on this site.

Good work!

That thing was made for tea! That is sweet. I also live in a dry climate, and have been considering "under the stairs" as a good storage place. My under stairs area is actually in the basement so I'm hoping that it is a little more humid.

I'm not interested in aging at this point, just preserving my tea until it is all consumed. It gets as low as 12-15% RH mid-day during the summers.

Believe it or not, but the odor of the storage area is completely neutral. The floor is concrete and the walls are drywall. When I pump up the humidity with the Hydra humidifier, I'll see if that changes anything but I don't imaging it will.
