Wednesday TeaDay 2/25/09 Uttering shincha or new harvest?

by Chip » Feb 25th, '09, 01:12

Hello and welcome TeaFriends to TeaDay. I hope you will stop by and share what is in your cup throughout the day.

Yesterday responders were pretty evenly spread regarding whether or not they are hi-tech brewers. You can still vote and discuss yesterdays topic.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. Do words like "shincha" or "new harvest" often come to mind when March ... and Spring is only weeks away (can you believe it, Winter is almost over???!!!???) rolls around? Please share your thoughts on this subject.

I am looking forward to sharing TeaDay with everyone, bottoms up.

Hand Rolled Himalayan

For sure, but in the meantime, we have to drink something.

I found this Nepal to be quite nice, much like an oolong or a light Darjeeling, spent leaves are medium size, fairly intact, few tips, various degrees of apparent oxidation.

Indeed, I won't be ordering anymore green until the harvest now (both Japanese and Chinese). I should have enough sencha to last me until then!

No tea just yet, but probably have something green shortly!

Have a great day everyone!

Jack :D

I didn't know a thing about it until I got an email today from Den's saying the new stuff was on the way or something like that.

You can tell I'm not a greenie...

Oh yeah. Eagerly anticipating the 2009 first flush from Darjeeling.

For now though, I've got 2008 Xiaguan FT #6 in my cup

I would say yes. The new harvest has been on my mind lately, as I ponder when to order what. I wish the online vendors would be more informative with when the '09 stuff is expected, particularly Silver Needle (Adagio take note).

White Symphony to celebrate a very spring-like morning, with birdsong and everything.

Of course I am beginning to think about shincha and new harvests (Darjeelings and maybe chinese greens) but as we are able to get high quality tea during the whole year it is not crucial to me.

Otsuusan sencha this morning.

This will be my first experience of shincha, but I've certainly heard plenty about it! :D

I picked up a beeng of 2007 Purple Leaf a few months back but never got around to testing it. That oversight ends today...

ditto here! i certainly think so now- might even supplant spring training as a true sign that winter is over and warmer weather is coming! i really dislike the cold although i am home and inside more on the weekends in winter and so have more time to brew tea. I've always enjoyed hot tea in the winter and iced in the summer- now I have some spring deliciousness to add. I placed an order with Den's for some of the sakura (sp?) thanks to the other thread and also ordered one of the starter sets since this was my first order- its due monday mar 2- how very timely!!

rishi's jade cloud- two quick steeps together in my hagi cup- :?: :?: should i be dedicating my hagi cup to just my sencha or is ok to drink other green teas in it???
cheryl :)

I don't wait expectantly for "new" tea. I appreciate the excitement but it's not what I do. :D

Margaret's Hope darjeeling this a.m.

Yeah, I would say yes - this place will be talkin' shincha for months.
I am looking forward to the spring oolongs this year.

In my cup this morning a favorite - Vintage Wiry Darjeeling from TeaSource,
that I don't see listed anymore. Oy.

Have a nice day everyone!

Oh yes! I can't wait for that time to roll around. I have enough tea here to keep me busy until then hehe.

This morning, I might have an oolong, but not sure yet between jasmine or wuyi.

Its "You betCHA!" for me this will be my first spring tea buying experience! I hope I don't go overboard. Which leads me to a quick question for you spring tea buyers.

Is the new harvest tea more expensive in early spring than it is now? I've been looking through all the online venders for good prices but maybe these are winter prices. Im just trying to go into the spring with a game plan of what I can afford.

Spoiled myself this morning with 10oz mug of Sowmee white tea and 6oz earl gray.

I'll probably try some shincha. I am looking forward to getting fresh whites and yellows in addition to greens.

Upton superior floral TGY in my cup this morning.
