Made from leaves that have not been oxidized.

Sencha in the morning?

by Jack_teachat » Feb 27th, '09, 06:03

Does anyone else find that sencha is not such a good tea for in the morning because they struggle to pick up all of the flavour from it? For some reason my taste buds aren't very good with Japanese green until a little later in the day, even if I wait until after breakfast to drink it. Anyone know any good ways to wake the tastebuds up, any particular foods etc?

Jack :D

I usually don't have sencha in the early morning because I think that a black tea pairs better with my breakfast, but about one hour after sencha tastes good as usual to me.

Well sir jack. My mornings are like skittles, they come in several flavors. Some mornings sencha is great. Some mornings kenya nandi is great. aha etc.

As for wakening the taste buds, I suggest doing a few jumping jacks, throwing back a hand-full of something spicey and saying beetle juice three times fast. :) :) :D

I've been brewing sencha for morning cuppa these days.... just trying to finish off the last year inventories. Feels great! Like having a heavy dose of wheatgrass, very healthy.

I enjoy sencha in the morning. I find most other teas too heavy or strong for first thing in the morning.

I think it has been, maybe.

I never used to start the day with any greens, always a strong black, even Darjeeling did not feel right. 3 years ago I think I started having greens almost all the time, including the first tea of the day, and always Japanese green. I have not had the need to go back to my roots.

Also, I feel better as a result.

I rarely have tea with breakfast.
blah blah blah SENCHA blah blah blah!!!

TEA is my breakfast
Almost always green lately, although an occasional black or smooth oolong creeps in there!

I switch up between teas for breakfast, but if I have the time to enjoy my morning tea, I most always go for a green. The aroma and subtle nuances of flavor wake me up more than strong black tea. It is a little slower with 5 to 6 smaller steeps than a travel mug full, but the end results are better for me.

Always green tea with breakfast. Usually sencha or long jing. I have black tea at night.

I also enjoy blacks in the morning, but sometimes I really fancy Japanese green, what puts me off slightly is the fact that my tastebuds seem to remain asleep for longer than I do!

Going to try a few things to combat this, will report back!

I find sencha a perfect tea for any occasion or any time of day. I usually don't drink any kind of tea with meals because I feel that the lingering flavor of most foods adulterates the tea. If you have something for breakfast which has strong flavors, maybe that's it?

Depends on my mood. Sencha tastes great in the morning and really gets me going. The only thing is that I usually don't have time to brew it and appreciate it when I'm rushing out the door.
