Tuesday TeaDay 3/03/09 "Go to" teacup?

by Chip » Mar 2nd, '09, 23:11

Hello and good TeaDay everyone. Please stop by and share what is in your cup throughout the day.

Yesterday most responders indicated thaqy had a "go to" teapot of some kind. You can still vote and replay to yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic follows yesterday's and begs to be asked. Do yopu have a favorite "go to" teacup that you find yourself reaching for more than others? Please share some details about your fave teacup or facsimile thereof.

I am looking forward to sharing TeaDay with everyone, and btw, bottoms up.

I find myself often using this cup:

I use these yunomi from hibiki-an most often:

They allow the subtle flavors of all my teas to come through, even the ordinary ones. They hold an adequate amount of liquor yet they are small enough to encourage slow, thoughtful drinking.

My son is home for the week and he's interested in tea so we did a comparative Wuyi tasting tonight:
Mem Imports Dark Wuyi Oolong vs Teaspring Rou Gui
Teaspring Tie Luo Han vs Teaspring Beidou No 1
Upton Da Hong Pao vs Jing's Imperial Da Hong Pao
Finished with Jing's Bai Ji Guan.

Sadly, I'm fighting a flu so I couldn't really taste them, but my son enjoyed them and that's what counts.

Not really no, I tend to go between them.

Teapigs Dragonwell at work this morning. Just made my first order from Adagio UK! Yunnan Gold and Dragonwell bags for drinking at work.

Have a great day everyone!

Jack :D

Ooooh, everybody has such lovely teacups. I do tend to go for one type, mostly because I don't own any others -- I use the Bodum double-walled glass cups.

This morning, I've gone with a 2008 Mengku Mu Ye Chun, "Old Tree Green Cake." In this first infusion, it has a very intriguing smoky/perfumy(?) kick to it...

Yes! My hagi cup! :D

Anticipating some sakura sencha in about 30 minutes but will use my great grandmothers demitasse cups- just to mix things up and I'm not sure if I should be enjoying flavored sencha in the hagi.

Yeah, lately it's been a nice glass cup with a handle when I'm home and have time to sit back and enjoy it.

I have a large cup that I painted at at paint-your-own-pottery place when we were visiting my daughter in North Carolina. It's not that pretty, but it holds a good amount of tea for getting the morning started! Plus it has sentimental value.

Nilgiri Glendale in the above-mentioned cup this morning!

I don't so much have a "go to" teapot, but I definitely have a (or a few) go to cups. I use a glass mug very often for Chinese green tea. I use a 2oz. bodum double wall cup frequently for tea, coffee and red wine. And my most favorite "go to" cup is my dharma tea cup.

I have several other cups and gaiwans. But I seldom use them. All of them just sit in my cupboard watching performance of these a few "go to" cups :D

In my cup now is Song Zhong Ba Xian from Susana. This is great!

Of course, my avatar photo is the cup I use the most. I like playing with others, but I always come back to the faithful leaping blue carp.

Example of another cup holding some delicious Bao Zhong from Taiwan:

I'm still without internet connection at home :( and too busy at work to come out and play. The bureaucrats at the gateway to the high speed highway seem to be conspiring against me in their indifference! One hopes that by the end of the week ...

Gingko, I love your glass mug. Is it designed for heat or just a plain glass mug? And who is Susana?

I think I use them all the same. It depends on my mood and the tea I'm drinking.
I don't like drinking white tea out of a heavy cup and I don't like drinking milky chai tea out of little round cups which I use for green tea...
Right now I'm drinking a spiced chai mate out of a cup that I found on sale at TEAVANA two weeks ago.
I love that tea. It's yerba mate, lemongrass, cinnamon, ginger, cardamon, clove. I wish adagio had yerba mate.
