Wednesday TeaDay 3/11/09 How much leaf?

by Chip » Mar 11th, '09, 02:36

Welcome everyone to TeaDay. Please stop by and share what is in your cup throughout the day.

Yesterday most responders indicated their "new tea" was oolong or green. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's Teapoll and discussion topic. I have asked this already, but since we have a lot of new members, plus our answers change as well ... how much tea do you consume in a month, do the math?

I am looking forward to sharing TeaDay with everyone today. Bottoms up.

A little less than 400g per month I guess since I don't drink tea at work anymore.
More (600-700g) when I am on vacations.

Keemun this morning.

260g

That's 80g a month for iced tea and then an average of 6g a day, I guess.

I think you mean do the maths! :P

I would say at the moment I average about 6-7g per day, so I would say around 6 ounces per month.

Adagio Yunnan Gold this morning at work.

Jack :D

Hm, I figured about 5g per day for most teas, except about 8-9g for oolongs... and I threw in a couple multi-tea days... that put me at about 180g.

I'm having adagio's keemun rhapsody this morning... it's cold again here. Brrrr!

I am curious to see how much everyone uses- a good tea day for me would be two sessions but most often I have one. I do tend to use more or the higher amounts of leaf when brewing so I selected 6 oz or less although iced tea weather is coming :)

At first I was looking for the '600 oz' option or so. I thought you meant prepared (liquid) lol

I voted '8 oz'. That includes my kids.

This morning still going through all my samples. That's so fun.
So far white peach is my favourite. I'll order that in a big size. :)

I'm guesstimating 300 grams.

A couple of grams of SN so far today, while having lunch outside in the sun for the first time this year. Yay!

I came up with 360 grams, just about half of that in a single puerh session per day since I do that gong fu.

I managed to find some nicer looking dogwood flowers, but they are some new monster cultivar that produces abnormally large flowers. They are pictured here with Yutaka Midori, which recently bowled over Cinnabar Red with its awesomeness.

About 14g per day for me, so ~420g per month. I stopped drinking coffee last July and I don't drink black tea, so more than half of that is for oolong. Also, I have a glut of tea right now. Eventually I'll be down to 10g per day.

Mem's Organic Dark Wuyi Oolong in my cup this morning.

Very interesting question! I never calculated the amount of leaf I have monthly. Now I estimate it's about 10oz. I usually have 3 tea sessions on weekend days, including Friday. On weekdays, I sometimes don't have tea in a whole day, and sometimes have 1-2 tea session, if I can escape office early :P

My goal is to lower the amount and to concentrate more on each sip :D I used to make oolong with 120-150ml teapots, and just recently shift my comfort zone to below 100ml. I used to think below 100ml was too small to handle. Recently I bought a 80ml teapot, which is my smallest so far. Will see if I could really expand my comfort zone to below 60ml - hum, maybe that will be too small to hold leaves!

Nice! I love the way the stem hides in the darkness, so the flowers seem as if they appear in the air from nowhere. And the shadow of flower in tea water is lovely! Dogwood flower in early March (and I remember you got some last month too!) - that's something we can't dream of in the north!

Beautiful pic salsero! Love dogwoods and that tea too. I have a big pink dogwood that I am so anticipating blooming- and I agree with gingko about the reflection of the flower in tea- you take great tea photos!!

10 ounces/280g or less here, at least with what I figured with my quick and rough math. And just my personal usage, I didn't include leaf used for DH's morning cuppa.

Rainy blah day today. And I've already screwed up pretty good at work. Oh well. People don't need to actually get paid, right?

Something caramel/almond in my cup this morning... forgot the name.
