First off this year we have Kaburagien starting their reservations for 88 nights! Coming in second is a newcomer to the shincha races, Sugimoto! Interestingly Sugimoto is a PREORDER ONLY situation. Only those who preorder will be able to get them. And In third we have O-cha coming in with Uji Kirameki, Kagoshima YM, Shizuoka Sencha Hatsumi and Fukamushi Supreme! Thanks Oliver! And 4th up we have Yuuki-cha, a relative newcomer to the shincha races folks! Announcing preorders to start on 4/10 is Den's. They might get trumped for 5th place though if someone allows preorders before then! And in a distant 5th comes Maiko tea through the gate, a relative newcomer to the shincha races, with no notable appearance last year. In a distant 6th we have Zeeeenchaaaaa!! And finally Hibiki-an puts up their preorders. Trailing well behind as expected is Lupicia. Ippodo is finally in!

I had some of their "prize winner" sencha, kabuse and matcha. Quite good for the sencha and the kabuse, the matcha wasn't too impressive.ryux wrote:I love the gift selection! Anyone have any info on this vendor? I've never heard about it nor tried their teas.

Their shincha is also very good but I might not order some this year because I have some other to try.

Often the very very first shincha picked ... to be the very first ... are picked with being the very first ... as the only priority it seems. Anything to be the very very first to market.
As such, often the very first to market offerings lack the best flavor or may be unbalanced.
Regardless, it is fun to watch the race ... I had the Hashiri from Den's last year. I am trying to be patient this year.

Ah true, but thus far we're seeing preorder pages go up. This is my favorite time of year. I decided I am going to get 7 shinchas this year because last year I took it for granted. Last year I thought that the Hashiri was only ok, it was kinda hard to brew. Help, I need a first-time-shincha buyer's guide. If I'm buying on a budget, what would you recommend as the must-try's for a new-ish tea drinker? Temomi is already down on my list after reading Pentox's review.
It's taken me this long to figure out the names of regular green teas, now I'm faced with terms like Hachijyu Hachiya and Hashiri.

Have you taken the time to read the 2008 Shincha topic?
