by Chip » Mar 22nd, '09, 01:36

Good TeaDay everyone, welcome to a TeaRoom TeaDay. I hope you will stop by and share what is in your cup throughout the day.

Yesterday the most popular comfort tea was black. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaRoom poll and topic. Are you a computer geek? Rate your prowess around a computer on a scale of 1-5 with 5 being the highest.

I am looking forward to sharing TeaDay with everyone. Bottoms up.

I'm probably a 4, compared to most people anyway.

Not enough tea today.
Hopefully I will make up for it tomorrow.

Well not too much I voted 3 thought because I am sort of glued to my MacBook, so I am at least a little bit of a computer geek.

I mostly use my computer for my work, playing backgammon and of course Teachat, so I don't think I am a computer geek.

Keemun Mao Feng Imperial to start the day.

Hrm, given my ability to manipulate computer hardware and software, I'm probably a 5... and no, I won't fix your computer for you. ;)

This morning I'm having some Bai Hao Yin Zhen, or some white tip silver needle. I usually brew this in a diffuser, but today I went with a gaiwan so that I wasn't cramming the diffuser full... and I was able to get a much better tasting brew out, I think. Mmmm!

Fujian baroque is steeping in the Bodum pot this morning.

I'd rate myself a 4 to 4.5. I use a variety of programs, have email/MSN up 24/7, can write some code, do graphic manipulation, run two websites and admin/moderate a couple more.

That depends what you mean by a geek. I'm a sort of `doctor' for very large systems, mainly commercial variants of UNIX but other operating systems too, and I do planning for performance and for capacity. But, I only catch up on the latest PC technology about every three years. I'm trying to have a life.

I was totally ravished by Zencha's Ultimate Sencha yesterday. I had two sessions with it and I still can't accurately describe it. It's fine and delicate but very rich and mere words seem inadequate for describing it. You see? It took advantage of me twice! This is one pricey tea as Zencha recommends using 5g of leaf with 4 oz of water. I'll try to get myself under control and look at it more objectively this afternoon.

This morning I'm going to track down a population of harlequin ducks that are wintering near Minot Beach in Scituate. There are usually very small numbers of them, three or four, but this winter there are fifty. Their population in Rockport is up, too, so this could bode well for the extremely endangered harlequins.

Upton's Spring Dragon in my cup this morning.

I would rate myself about a 4. My current computer is one that my fiance and I built. He helped me pick out the parts and we both put it together. I am still learning all the different things about computers, but my guy friends who would rate above a 5 have taught me a lot so far.

Currently in my cup is Shui Xian Wuyi "C" from gingko. It tastes slightly less roasted than other Shui Xians I have sampled. I couldn't figure it out at first since the other Shui Xians have tended to be more roasted and chocolately, but this one has overtones reminiscent of a greener oolong. The leaves smell like a normal Shui Xian, but the tea itself smells like a green oolong. What a fascinating tea.

I would say I'm about a 4, because I use somewhat complicated programs for my work.

If the question were about fiixing a computer, I'd be about a 2. I can re-boot if the computer freezes, and have put hard drives and usb/other cards into my computer, but if it dies completely, I'll be out of luck. In fact, our laptop got knocked over a couple of weeks ago, and I'm having a co-worker's son fix it for me by putting in a new motherboard.

Yesterday I wanted my go-to tea, Irish Breakfast, but found out I didn't have any. So since then I've been drinking another favorite, Nilgiri Glendale.

I'd say I'm a solid 4... not a 5 because I still lack knowledge and expertise in certain areas. I use my computer all the time, more than my television as a rule. I'm pretty comfortable doing general repairs and component replacements on desktops, although I don't even have a desktop in my home anymore. I know how to do some basic webpage design, and I used to work for a Virtual World called VZones, designing scenery locales for animated avatars to navigate. These days, I'm just a consumer, not employed online anymore... although I would love to sysop a forum or teach an online course some day.

In my cup first this morning was the last dregs of my Gyokuro Imperial... and now some Nepal First Flush (Adagio) to accompany the magically delicious cheese and bacon waffles I whipped up for brunch.

Be sure to visit the Signature Blend forum for information on the upcoming Signature Blend Pass Box!

I work in computer book publishing so I guess I'm a geek by default. My project this week is a 1200-page book on Unreal 3 programming. Yippee.

Sencha this morning.

In my cup this morning - still digging the Lupicia FF Darjeeling I found in my tea stash, wow. (wonder what else is in there, ha!)

Happy Sunday everyone!
