Thursday TeaDay 3/26/09 Tea Experiments IV Defy convention?

by Chip » Mar 26th, '09, 01:14

Greetings and welcome to TeaDay everyone. Please stop by and share what is in your cup throughout the day!

Yesterday the vast majority of responders indicated they were currently experimenting with brewing vessels. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. Tea Experiments IV. Are you following the beat of your own drum? Is there something you are currently doing with tea or teaware that as you read TeaChat, you realize you may be defying convention? Whether it is "right or wrong," you are going to do it your way? Please share with us your thoughts on this concept.

As always, I am looking forward to sharing TeaDay with everyone. Bottoms up ...

#2 - I sometimes follow the beat of my own drum and defy TeaChat convention.

I have learned a lot here, but I also know what works best for me. So I have my own style, but I still rely on basics learned here.

I'M TOO LAZY TO PREHEAT!

#2 also. I've been straining my teas lately with a gold plated coffee filter- that seems to do the trick, especially with the Rooibos not gumming up or being too small to go through the holes.

I put down number 4 but I might be as far gone as number 5, "I always seem to follow TeaChat convention, receiving great guidance"

I am more than a little excited since I just ordered some 2009 FF Darjeeling tonight. Will be ordering some new Chinese greens later in the week when a special one becomes available at TeaSpring.

Thanks again, Devites, for this lovely gift of Farmer’s Bao Zhong, one bright and classy tea!

In my cup now, finishing off a session of a 2008 Mengku Shuangjiang Old Tree that was a gift from Trioxin last July. Acidic and rich, with a nice aftertaste. Maybe it’s just my imagination, but I am finding all sorts of similarities to First Flush Darj.

I suppose that some people will perceive deviations more keenly than others? I went with the middle of the road... the only thing that I can think of that might be rather odd is that I tend to brew my black tea like pu-erh/oolong... higher leaf, shorter times. But I have been changing around times and amounts lately, which gets back to that experimenting thing.

No experimenting this morning, though. I'm enjoying a Da Hong Pao that practically brews itself.

I don't "deviate" so to speak too much... I did brew black tea in my kyusu a couple of times once but have not done this for quite a while!

Adagio Yunnan Gold to start the day at work... my PhD application is due in just under 2 hours, wish me luck!

Have a great day everyone! :D

I went with the middle option. Usually the advice on here leads me in the right direction, but once in a while I don't follow convention, but it is very rare since many people on here have greater knowledge of tea than me and they are usually right.

I don't follow the norm especially when it comes to sencha. I steep sencha at 180 degrees for 2 minutes.

I like to drink tea hotter than cooler and the longer steep time gives me a stronger flavor and aroma.

I still gain a tremendous amount of knowledge from reading TeaChat.

Nice pic Sal! Is that the one from Floating Leaves Tea?
Sometimes I can just tell how good the tea is by the sparkling color.
Looks delish.

I voted I rarely deviate, coincidentally or purposely. In some things I use TC as a jumping off point for trying new things and I give myself permission to do it however ends up best for me, but most times the things I like best end up the same as what is on TC or pretty close

Momo tea this morning for me. I'm searching for some work to do.

I rarely vary from "convention". When I find something that works I tend to stick with it...so far I haven't been lead astray by the folks on this forum. :D

Mai Pu Tan is today's choice.

I usually consult TeaChat advice, and if the suggestions I get don't work for me, then I do my own thing.

No tea yet this morning, but I think it might be a Nilgiri.
