Friday TeaDay 3/27/09 Why TeaChat?

by Chip » Mar 27th, '09, 01:20

Happy TeaDay everyone. Please stop by and share what is in your cup throughout the day.

Yesterday responders indicated varying levels of following convention found on TeaChat. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. Be honest, of the options listed in the poll, which option best explains why you FIRST came to TeaChat?

I am looking forward to sharing TeaDay with everyone. Bottoms up.

To get advice ... and boy did I get it! Among its other attributes, TeaChat has become the biggest compendium of information and recommendations on such a wide range of tea types.

More natural light today, just for Geekgirl. Here the dawn sunlight streams down from our highest Florida peak: Mt. Apopka, part of the Ocklawaha Massif. If everyone is sufficiently credulous today, I may include some shots tomorrow of the famous yodeling alligators that have been sighted in those snow covered Florida peaks.

Tea fellowship here but I would prefer 'all of the above'

To discuss tea for me. I did a search for tea forums and this one seemed to have the most traffic going at the time for the types of teas I was drinking. Hadn't lost interest yet, so something must be working.

Discuss tea in general and tea fellowship both at pretty equal for me, but I guess to discuss was the main reason. I had been an occasional tea drinker all my life, then in the last 3 years got into loose leaf through Adagio. When I discovered oolong things really took off, and I wanted to talk about tea! There was just no one who could understand my passion for tea.

Then I thought I need to look for a tea forum, somewhere where I can talk about tea, and people understand. So it was sort of both for me; desperately wanting to talk about tea and wanting to be with people who understood and were like me. I had no idea I was going to learn so much and find such a wonderful group of friends.

It was purely curiosity at first, I wasn't quite sure how much or what one could say about tea. Now it's asking for advice. I hope one day I can give advice but that might be awhile although I'm ordering lots of books on tea

I was definitely looking for advice when I first came here, although I imagine there was a good dollop of curiosity mixed in there. Over time, tea fellowship has grown to the major piece, though I still learn a lot every week. . .

This morning, I've gone again with the Tie Guan Yin, now that I've opened the package. . . :D

I arrived here via google to find out if my local tea shop was trying to pull a fly one on me by telling me I needed different pots for different tea, turns out they were only being helpful as were the people here. Sad the shop is long gone, super happy TeaChat is going stronger than ever.

Damn you Chip, you've got me reading old threads now like I've just found an old box of photographs in the loft. I've got uni work to be doing!

Mine was to discuss, more specifically to learn.

Almond cookie tea this morning.

Yay Friday!

Originally I was just looking for a place to discuss tea with other people who were as excited about it as I am...I didn't expect to find such a tight knit community. And I have learned and learned and learned...and I still feel that I know NOTHING!

I am playing around with yesterday's 1st flush Darjeeling, trying to get something out of it. I'm also brewing some 2nd flush Darjeeling in case I don't have any luck.

Back in the day, TeaChat was the only active forum for discussions on tea that I could find. I really wanted to talk about tea. However, now that I am powerless over tea and teaware, I look upon TeaChat more as a support group which, far from leading me to tea abstinence, encourages me to explore my addiction in new and fascinating ways.

This morning I find myself on the last dregs of last years sencha and a month away from the new crop. It's organic sencha so it was never big in the taste department to begin with. I'm going to roast it and drink it tonight. Meanwhile I will break a long standing tradition and have black tea in the morning; Keemun.

Getting advice is definitely the reason I came to TeaChat. It's nice to be able to ask questions and get GOOD answers, with very little sarcasm! Now I still value the advice but also value the fellowship of fellow tea lovers.

Nilgiri Glendale at home this morning. I haven't had any tea yet here at work.

Happy Friday, Everyone!

Came to learn.

by Intuit » Mar 27th, '09, 11:00

Ran across TC via Google search on greener oolongs. Wanted to learn more about Asian greens and oolongs. The latter I have imbibed for several decades, but hadn't really dipped into the Chinese oolong pond, having stuck to tried and true Formosa/Taiwan oolongs. The former was either too astringent or vegetal; I now realize that was due to differences among varietals, quality or technique.

I had hoped to find others interested in English teaware; no luck.

The photos are a pleasant bonus.
