by Chip » Mar 29th, '09, 01:28

Good TeaDay everyone. Welcome to our virtual TeaRoom. Please stop by and share what is in your cup today.

Yesterday responders chose tea fellowship and general tea discussion as the top picks as to why they keep coming back to TeaChat. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaRoom and discussion topic, we explore this fellowship aspect and try to get to know each other a bit. Please try to have fun with this, it can be a bit of a heavy topic. Would your dream career differ from your current path? In other words, "what do you want to be when you grow up?" Please share a little with us.

I am looking forward to fellowshipping with everyone today. Bottoms up.

Oh yeah, quite a bit. But my current job is ok, I'm fortunate to have it and it pays for the tea. :)

My dream job would involve travel to wonderful locations, a flexible schedule and of course a huge salary and best of all no stress.

My dream career would not be much different, if at all. I love what I do, I'm self-employed, there's a great market for my skills... if anything, I'd want to be a little more specialized, and a little more highly trained. Mostly my "dream" differences have to do with education. I'd love to have more education than I currently have - maybe a degree in physiology or some pre-med.

Down the road a bit, I'd love to teach some workshops, or maybe do some private training. But right now, things are pretty dang good. A little seasonal slowness, but picking up again.

I have to admit though, aside from all of that, I'd love to do something revenue-generating with my photography. But I think I'm still quite far from that. Heck, I still can't even use Photoshop effectively. Which reminds me, I need to look into taking a class or two.

I am doing the job that I dreamed of doing when I was 6 years old (police officer). Needless to say, I wouldn't change a thing. While it can take it's toll on me and my family- physically and mentally- the last 13 years of work have been great. I got in this line of work at 21 years old and 90% of the people that went through the Academy with me are out of law enforcement totally. It makes me pretty dang happy to know I had what it takes to stick with it...

I can't really vote on the poll because I don't have a career yet because Im currently in college.

Im undecided right now unfortunatly :? At this point I just want a career that when I get out of school I can actually find a job(If that exists now).

Its about 3:30am so I will have to settle for tea dreaming until I wake.

I haven't had a dream career. I liked very much working as a research engineer in fundamental chemistry and physics but I like just as much my current job as teacher for kids with learning disabilities, psychological troubles and mental disorders.

Keemun Mao Feng Imperial this morning.

I was married with our first on the way when I graduated from college and couldn't spend the time it would take to find a job doing research as a mathematician. I went where the money was and started working in computers and communications. I enjoy what I do and I'm very successful. I've always been able to draw on mathematics to provide additional tools for my kit, which these days are mainly logic and queueing theory.

Upton's 1st grade TGY in my cup this morning. I'm off to the refuge in the few minutes.

I might do something different, but I really enjoy what I do now. And I have a sneaky suspicion that if I did some of my hobbies for a living (which I suppose would be my 'second choice') that I would cease to enjoy them as much as I do. And that would be a shame.

Tai Ping Hou Kui this morning. I dug into a 2004 Tibetan Flame brick yesterday afternoon and had an enjoyable series of cups with it.

I love so much about my current career- I teach first grade. I love that I don't sit at a desk, that I have plenty of chances to be creative and try new things (I teach at a private school) and that I have holidays and summer off to spend time with my other interests. I've been taking classes and really becoming more into teaching dyslexic kids and kids with learning issues which provides plenty of mental stimulation for me. I tutor in the summer which provides a bit of the joy of being self- employed. I also am on committes for planning the annual fall convention- lots of professional networking and for accrediting and reaccrediting schools which provides some professionalism/professional and career growth. There are two negatives to my job- the lack of respect from the general public and the paycheck!

So my dream job would be my current one but with respect given to me and my peers equal to or exceeding that given to doctors, lawyers etc and a a paycheck equivalent to theirs as well!!

I've been away on spring break with limited computer access (so ok as I was mostly on the golf course or the lanai with a drink). I enjoyed lots of ocha tea bags. I ordered a new teapot to replace the one that I broke- same pot so chip you are still a godfather- you have a new godpot!

Later today I'll have the last of my sakura sencha.

Second that, though I'm in high school, at least for the next two months. I did vote "yes, I think so" since I'm pretty sure I won't get to do my dream job.

My dad once told an adult friend of mine that, "...Unlike other people, [he] never grew out of the wanting to be a superhero phase." Personally, I took that as a complement, because yeah, being someone like Jack Ryan from the tom clancy books would be awesome (that's what he meant by superhero).

Although, now I tell people I want to be batman...

...or a racecar driver, but that seems a bit more within my reach, since I could argue that I already am and just don't make any money off of it.

Not sure what I'm going to end up doing though. I've got computer skills, and I run sound for shows, church, school, etc. all the time. I enjoy both those things, and (not wanting to sound boastful here, sorry...) I'm pretty good at them, but I don't really want them to be careers.

Travel mug of Adagio Ginseng Green to start the day.

P.S. And speaking of work, I'm not really feeling that today... Looking forward to wednesday, since I'll be off for 12 days after that for vacation.

Preach on. My wife also works in the school system and both of us know how you feel.

I know a number of good people who have made a career out of being a student! it's an honest living . . .

I would definitely be doing something very different. We have been living, until recently, in small towns in the middle of nowhere. I should have continued on being a student during that time.

Crappy, rainy day here. If it clears up we're going for a walk.
