Thursday TeaDay 4/02/09 Caffeine WD?

by Chip » Apr 2nd, '09, 01:16

Good TeaDay everyone! Please stop by and share what is in your cup today.

Yesterday responders discussed the April 1st takeover of Teavana by Adagio. Fortunately, I have not been "fired" as of this writing!

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. Here is a tough one, again. Caffeine withdrawl symptoms? If so, how quickly does it take for you to feel the effects? What effects do you experience? Is it just physical, or is it also on a psychological level? Please share ...

I am looking forward to sharing caffeine withdrawl symptoms ... and tea with everyone today. Bottoms up, quickly.

A definite yes,

...but it seems enormously less so than when I was a heavy coffee drinker ... or maybe it's just the psychological effect is less. Back when, I felt like I needed my coffee immediately in the morning or life was hopeless. Now, I sometimes don't get around to deciding which tea to make for several hours after getting up. Maybe it's just that indecision is a more powerful drug than caffeine!

I get an insane morning headache without caffeine. How long? Never really timed it. During the day, it is more of just feeling the want for tea. And as the day goes on and it is closer to evening and I have not had tea, I feel unsettled, craving it.

It's rare that I feel the effects of caffeine (by that I mean notice the effects) -- only rarely do I notice, "Ooh, I feel jazzed." As such, I don't think I've ever noticed withdrawal symptoms at all. No cravings either. Hmm.

Anyway, A Wu Yi Dan Cong this morning... like mango! Mmmmm.

.

Can you tell us more about your Wu Yi Dan Cong, I am familiar with GuangDong Dan Cong but was not aware that Lone Bush was a term much used in North Fujian.

My attempts to google for it brought up dozens of very different looking entries which were all hijacked links for a 'You have won a prize' redirection.

If a genuine WuYi Single Bush then what is the varietal?

Or could it be a FengHuang something like da Wu Ye DanCong?
Best wishes from Cheshire

I do get withdrawal symptoms, but I agree with Sal it isn't quite as bad as when I was a coffee drinker. I used to get massive headaches if I didn't have several cups of coffee. With tea it seems like I can go a lot longer without it before I get headaches. No tea yet today as I haven't even dragged myself out of bed yet.

Yes, most definately. In the morning I drink a big cup of coffee. If I don't I'll get a really bad headache in the late morning. And throughout the day I need tea or coffee to keep me going.
The funny thing is, that I have another cup of coffee after dinner and I can still fall asleep without problem.

morning black T (sometimes matcha) and occasional cola in the day is my only caffeine
i dont get any withdrawals without them.

when i was on coffee and i'd miss a dose i'd get morning cloudiness, then later headache.

(and similar to ^ cinni said, sometimes i could drink coffee in the morning and go back to sleep even tho i had my 7hours)

DON'T TELL ME TO BE PREPARED TO DISCUSS... I'LL DO IT WHEN I'M READY!!
*cough*
sorry, haven't had my fix yet.

In all seriousness though... I don't think I experience caffeine withdrawals (such as headaches, irritability...) but maybe more of a mental craving. I've don't think I've ever been persistent enough with caffeine intake to feel withdrawals.

I'm drinking Sakura Sencha from Den's.

I don't seem to notice withdrawal symptoms very often. I frequently don't drink any coffee or tea on Saturday until later in the day. However, if I go a couple of days without caffeine I get a headache and become pretty grouchy. :D

The worst case I had was several years ago when I went cold turkey. I was drinking coffee a lot and decided to go the decaf route. Not a good idea...after two days the wife "made" me go get a cup of regular brew. I then started a staged withdrawal! :D

I'm one of those folks that doesn't feel the "kick" in the morning from my first cup of tea or coffee.

However, this morning I'm enjoying a cup of fairly high caffeine Ceylon tea!!

I do get a major headache, but it takes about 48 hours to set in. Usually the only time I go that long without tea is when I'm sick and drinking other fluids (juice, airborne, herbals). What's funny is every time it takes me a few hours to figure out WHY my head is killing me. Once I realize it, I make a cup of tea (usually a Japanese green), and down it and I'm fine.

I don't usually notice the effects of caffeine when I have had it though, unless I've had waaaay too much. ^_~

Probably a Kagoshima sencha this morning. I'm still to (scared, nervous, unsure, broke) to order shincha, although everyone talking about it is getting me very excited.
