so they call oolong the weight loss tea..ive been drinking ti kuan yin for over a month now every single day!

I still haven't loss any weight. wth? :twisted: atleast i didnt' waste my money, ti kuan yin iz awesooommeee! 8)

Weight loss is just an easy way to convince people to buy tea (usually tea that is labeled such is pretty low quality stuff too). The general idea behind it is that if you replace other less healthy drinks like soda and such with tea you might loss weight because of the reduction of calories and sugar intake.

Other then that, enjoy your tea for any reason you want, there are plenty of them from simple to just plain outrageous, but never enjoy tea for any sort of "weight loss"

blahh..what about all the other health benefits from drinking tea..like lower cholesterol, heart disease, etc..

I don't know. I drink Oolong in the morning, and after every meal I have for the past two months. I haven't changed my diet and I don't exercise and I have lost 7lbs.
I wasnt drinking it for this reason, Oolong is my favorite and now that I am working in a place with tea again I have more access to it.

During my first year as a heavy tea drinker I lost a lot of weight for two reasons. 1) I did not have the same need to eat all the time, when I drank all the time 2) It lessened my hunger. But this "effect" only lasted for a year, then I grow used to it all and fell back to my old habits. Losing weight has to be based on the food, not the tea.

No, that's true, according to lots and lots of studies. A few can be seen here: http://www.adagio.com/info/health_benefits.html

However, as many here, I drink tea because I like it; the rest is kind of a bonus.

right on andycr.. same for me. there are a lot of health and other benefits to teas. take the bad breath one for example..i read that somewhere else as well..and actually foodtv or someone did a challenge on what cures bad breath. the tea didnt *cure* it but they found that regular tea drinking helped stave off the bad bacteria that *cause*s it... then theres the whole antioxidant thing and more and more. but for me just like andycr said i drink it first for the pure enjoyment of it!

As some others have mentioned you must lower calories and fats and stuff. You cant consume fast food every day getting 4000 calories per day and then drink a cup of tea and expect to loose weight, that to me is pretty common sense. A healthy diet (with tea obviously) and some exercise and you will loose weight. Not to mention the weight loss tea is really puerh, haha let the arguments begin.

When I first starting drinking tea I lost a fast 5 pounds. That's ONLY because instead of mindless snacking at the computer or at night, I was having a cup of tea instead. I was also exercising regularly. But then, after I hurt my foot I couldn't exercise so I gained a little bit back. And my tea habits stayed the same.

I was drinking mainly blacks, greens and a bit of oolongs. Did the type of tea facilitate the weight loss? Perhaps. But ultimately it's about your lifestyle choices. If you choose the cup of tea over the doughnut for a nighttime snack, yes you will probably lose weight. But you have to be consistent.

for me asides from just liking green teas and oolongs it became a replacement for high calorie soda's or "flavored' water drinks with lots of sugars etc..

You probably need to drink a lot of tea to get any benefits, and even then there's no guarantee. FWIW, I drink a fair amount of tea but I haven't lost (or gained) any weight in the past couple of years.

I do weight training, high weight low rep, mass training with the protein shakes and all. anyway, I can tell you that, when I dont have much tea (1 pot/day, about 10 oz.) I gain weight much easier and faster than If I have more. It dosent make me loose weight but drastically slows me from gaining.

For some reason when I drink tea I feel full. Drinking water or any other liquid has the same effect, but tea has it to a much greater extent. I haven't noticed it more with oolong than any other tea, however. In that sense, I could see it helping you lose weight through suppressing your appetite, though I don't know why oolong is singled out.

Aside from that, replacing soda or other sugary drinks with tea will eliminate a lot of calories. Lower calorie intake means you will lose weight. Are you drinking soda in addition to the tea, or exclusively tea and water?

Caffeine is a muscle stimulant:
Tea is good for heart
Tea is good for lungs
Tea is good for muscles

Caffeine is a appetite suppressant:
Tea is good for weight loss

That is what I'll agree with currently.

I should add that these are short term, marginal, effects.
