I read through the topics I could find on this subject but I wanted to see if I could squeeze anymore information out of you guys.
Are 400ml/13.5oz kyusus uncommon? I have an 11oz but I find myself filling it to the top. Perhaps I've just grown used to brewing larger cups of tea and I should accustom myself to making smaller cups. If anyone has any good sites to purchase from regardless of size please feel free to make suggestions.
I'm curious how much leaf you use if your filling up an 11 oz to the top. Are you brewing for more then yourself?
I've seen some really large sized kyusu and I wouldn't think anything that size to be too uncommon. In fact my pursuit for a smaller volume kyusu has lead me down this path, and they seem to be few and far between. Most kysus that i've seen tend to start in the 10-11 oz range.

I actually have one of these

Artistic Nippon has a selection of kyusu in their Tokoname section ranging from less than five ounces to over twenty ounces. They just listed seven new Banko kyusu, four of which are less than six ounces. They also have a couple of Tokoname kyusu in this size range.
Note: the Banko's are located in the Tokoname section.
With Chinese-Taiwanese tea, I prefer Yixings that are between two and five ounces. With Japanese tea, other than Gyokuro, I use kyusu of all sizes up to about twelve ounces and don't necessarily prefer large or small. Regardless of size, I do feel that the results are better when not filling the kyusu to the rim. I usually fill about two thirds of the kyusu with water.
With gyokuro, I brew about one and a half ounces in a pot whose total volume is less than three ounces.

I have found a lot of designs that I really liked but of the ones that are of the size I'm looking for (I'm guessing they have the number 25 in the beginning of the description) I like #227 the best.iannon wrote:have you found something thats caught your eye then?Odinsfury wrote:I have found that filling it all the way makes it more difficult to pour.
Those sites have a lot of lovely teapots to look through. =D
P.S. How big are the ones that say 35 up to 50?

if you are looking at that tokoname site i sent the the pots have the item # first 93 lines and a number) then the size then the price in yen. at the top of most pages there is a "conversion" of the size # to ml. so a 35 would be 630ml or 21.3 oz ( I use google to convert ml to oz) so # 227 is a 23 size so 450ml = 15.2ozOdinsfury wrote:I have found a lot of designs that I really liked but of the ones that are of the size I'm looking for (I'm guessing they have the number 25 in the beginning of the description) I like #227 the best.iannon wrote:have you found something thats caught your eye then?Odinsfury wrote:I have found that filling it all the way makes it more difficult to pour.

there is a link on the main page with ordering instructions..basically its done thru email and they send you a paypal invoice ( thats how i ordered and is the easiest way) I had no problems at all myself. might take a day or so for them to get back with you the first time round tho. I heard about the site thru other people here on teachat that had used them as well.Odinsfury wrote:Oh you're right, I see that conversion chart now. Thanks!
How does one go about ordering from this site?

I ordered from them twice and was very happy on balance. A couple of small caveats:
1) The photos are not all very accurate in terms of color. I was surprised when a kyuusu I ordered was actually a dark green color instead the more charcoal or gray I was expecting.
2) As with so many places, the stated capacities are only very approximate. Artistic Nippon gives very accurate numbers, but the sizes from Tokoname Yuyaku are best thought of as indications rather than specifications.
Having said all that, I have gotten some great teaware from them at very reasonable prices, with fast delivery and good service.
