Shincha Box Pass?

by bsteele » Apr 5th, '09, 14:27

Anyone thought of doing a shincha box pass-- that would be so awesome. However, I'm sure some rigid guidelines would need to be set (only x number of people, must supply x amount of tea, can't keep box longer than x days to ensure freshness for last person to receive it, etc).

The logistics of it could make it more trouble than it's worth. But for someone like me, this will be my first shincha season, and getting exposure to numerous selections could make it worth it.

Some potential guidelines that I was thinking of:

Box limited to 10 people
Each person must supply at least 100g of shincha (and maybe set a budget)
Each person can take up to 10g per shincha selection
Box must be mailed withing 4 days of receiving it

The order people receive the box could be set up based on the next closet person geographically in order limit time wasted in transit. For example, to prevent it from being shipped from east coast to west coast back to east coast...

Thoughts... is it worth it.... any interest?

Not saying it cannot be done, but given the time sensitive nature of shincha, makes it a bit problematic logistically. Also given the fact shincha is not all released at the same moment in time, often more over a month or so.

Generally alternative trading practices are more effective. For instance, some members (me too) will trade/share samples between individuals or groups of individuals. This is more logical considering I want shincha within days or a week of opening the bag, not weeks after the fact and after it has been handled by up to 10 traders.

The less handling the better.

You can post your interest in trading under the very popular Shincha topic or even PM individuals.

I agree with chip. Although a great idea I think it has been brought up last season as well. I participated in the oolong box pass and know that it doesnt always work out for everyones schedule in the end, luckily oolong stays fresh pretty long.

I am also interested in possible trading of some samples and sharing of whatever shinchas I do end up purchasing before the seasons over. I suppose theres always the teafridge to stock up

We could start a special thread dedicated to trades and what not of this years shincha offerings and sticky it perhaps?

Ahh didn't think about all that. Thanks for the input.

As Poly suggested, perhaps a trade thread would be the better option.
